Why these stats don't mean anything: Marquez cut Pacquiao's workrate and connect % down in three ways: by controlling distance (#1), countering Manny with combinations (#2 ) , and going blow for blow with Manny in the exchanges (#3). The problem for Floyd is that he doesn't do any of these things very well. He can control the distance with his footwork, but he's prone to letting guys walk in and making them miss or blocking their shots. He also doesn't use his jab that much, something that Pacquiao is vulnerable to and can help keep him at bay. He never throws combinations. When he's being defensive he looks to cover up to avoid getting hit rather then firing back. He also has a tendency to go back and forth in straight lines rather then move laterally and give angles. This is why Pacquiao will give him problems. Floyd's a clever boxer but he's also very mechanical. He looks to break you down with one well placed punch at a time. That's works until you got a guy in front of you who you cant control with one shot. His counter-punching is also nullified a bit when he's fighting a leftie. He can't roll off those shots like he usually does - he has to square himself up which leaves him more open to be hit. Pacquiao's also an underrated boxer, and he's got great ring instincts. He knows all the angles and he's pretty clever himself. Floyd can't just outbox and tool him like he's some scrub. Watch the Marquez II fight, actually look at what Marquez is doing and not just the fact that he's a 'counter-puncher' then watch Floyd fight Zab Judah, Sharbe Mitchell or Demarcus Corley (southpaws). The **** isn't black and white. There are as many different counter-punchers as there are offensive fighters, and different ones will give eachother problems.
I think this guy has it backwards. Everyone has an opinion though. People were nearly 50-50 on Mayweather-Mosley. How can he talk about 'the keys to beating Mayweather' when Mayweather has never been beaten? One thing Mayweather has shown is adaptivity. You can't predict/gameplan for adaptivity. He is also under the delusion that Manny will throw over 1000 punches against Floyd first of all, and secondly that its improbable that he'd land less than 40%. Pacquiao threw 1200 punches against Clottey and LANDED ONLY 20%.
Tasco has a good post, even against slower one dimensional Corrales, Floyd in his best weight does not throw combinations the way Marquez does, most of the time against Corrales you will see him throw one shot at a time. And now that Floyd is slower, his output would be even less against Pacquiao who is light years away from someone like Corrales. Pacquiao will UD or TKO Floyd in my opinion.
this discussion really is irrelevant anymore. floyd is not fighting pac. if he were, they wouldve fought already and floyd wouldve knocked manny out as *****s say!
that's a problem here..me also a real pac fan thinks that floyd will outbox him...but i don't understand floyd has no urge to fight pac
I don't tell no lies either, even inferior fighters to Pac can outfight, outpunch and outland Floyd by using intelligent aggression: The Punch Stats: Castillo Mayweather 203 Landed 157 506 Thrown 448 40% Percentage 35% Power Punching Stats: Castillo Mayweather 173 Landed 66 377 Thrown 151 46% Percentage 44%
20% of 1200 is 240 punches, more than what FLoyd landed on Mosley. Sounds like Pac knows what he's doing.
Floyd can counter with combinations. Watch the Mosley fight. Floyd does counter southpaws. WHy do you think they Corley and Zab stopped throwing their jabs. FLoyd isn't Mexican like Marquez and is extremely slick, he won't be in situations where he'll go "blow for blow". Floyd doesn't use the jab as much as other fighters because his right hand connects with ease. If you can land a jab or a power punch, it's usually better to use the power shot. marg's lame AZZ jab was connecting, $ has one of the best jabs in the business. Floyd throws combinations against lefties. Watch Zab and Corley get their AZZes beat for proof. This content is protected This was emmanuel's workrate in what his fans deem to be the "new emmanuel's" greatest performance. Cotto doesn't have the timing, countering, footwork, and combinations of Marquez and Floyd, but Cotto was still able to reduce emmanuel's work rate. emmanuel anit throwing no 1000 punches against someone with half decent boxing skills let alone great and godly. emmanuel can't parry shots nor can he cut off the ring as well as Castillo. He's going to be eating jabs all night. Castillo was clearly larger than FLoyd, and emmanuel is not. Floyd restricts the emmanuel offensive via clinch.
emmanuel "2.0" doesn't throw no 1000 punches against anyone with half decent boxing skills. GO look up the Cotto compubox stats for proof.
"workrate" is so overused and over praised....PWs work rate didn't help him as he ate that KO shot from sergio....Margo's workrate didn't help him as sugar TKOed him and Pac pummeled his azz
workrate can be neutralized with clinching, movement, and countering Shane made antonio's workrate a joke via clinch emmanuel reduced antonio's workrate by riding his bike Juan Marquez redcued emmanuel's workrate through counters
