Before our current WBA, WBC etc there were multiple world champions at one one time, its just the letters were different (and not mentioned) such as NYSAC, EBU, BBBofC, and even 'Australian Version'

History ages boxing world titles pretty well.

 

To be fair, the world champions of the last century remained well identified in each continent. Stadiums Ltd had as much right as Richard K. Fox to claim the name, title, weight and where abouts of any claimant to a world crown. The London Athletic Club held no less right to determine who was considered their man in each division.

It appears the loudest mouths; the newspaper publishers and promoters of the USA, combined with pre- 20th century currency in the USA, would ultimately decide- via the press anyway- just who was the alleged 'greatest fighter' in the world at their own particular weight.

The financial gain from a title claimancy in the USA during the 1880s until the turn of the 20th century was unequalled anywhere else ...

That is until Australia became a boxing Mecca. Unfortuantely, as is typical, the majority of US based world champions flatly refused to extend their own talents beyond the home borders. That monopolisation has barely ceased.

We must be grateful that the proud WBA has more than enough belts to fit-out every fighters waist line. Several other world title belts appear to hold up underpants, whilst credibility falls through the floor.

 

Rest assured you'll run a very solid 2nd place as far as most posts in this thread goes Ash - and there'll be daylight between you and 3rd place that's for certain.

Plus you have the 'distinction' of creating the thread in the first place and being toweled up in it by multiple posters each time you've written anything here. :hi:

Disappointed I missed 20a87 this morning - was going to wish him a happy easter.

He was on here at 6.32am (10.32pm France time), and still hiding behind his 'surveillance alias' of his Dan_D.

Not sure exactly who he thinks he's tricking with the alias thing? Sure aint me.
