    Here are two of Rodrigo Valdez's early fights after arriving in the US.

    Here, Valdez's debut at Madison Square Garden is spoiled by slick-boxing journeyman Pete Toro. Toro scored the cleaner punches and a flash KD to eek out a close decision.

    In a remarkably similar fight in MSG just a few months later, Valdez was again outslicked in a close, hard-fought battle with unbeaten prospect Ralph Palladin.

    Galindez, by this time, had settled into his familiar style of counterpunching off the ropes...basically he just fought a countering type of fight..and patiently would wait out an opponent. Even after scoring a kd, he would revert back to that countering style..going for the decision victory, which the judges, it seems could never deny him.
