So Fitzsimmons gets destroyed 2x by Jeffries yet he has a shot vs Louis and Marciano?

I think the word destroyed is harsh. Infact by all accounts it was fitzsimmons who destroyed jeffries before the size difference overcame him.

That being said considering the punch resistance of rocky I imagine the fight would have gone in a similar fashion.

As for louis not only is he just as big he also has the p4p skillset to matchup so I don't see him ever beating louis (then again that applies for anyone in history)

 

The deer story is based onb an event that is prety reliably documented.

Jeffries did lift a 500lb deer onto a truck in front of several reporters.

 

No, both dislike Marciano era though and have a bias against it. Hegrant I believe posted unrealesed footage so he's a big asset to the forum/community

 

Tom Sharkey went forty five rounds with a brutal, large heavyweight in Jeffries ... with all respect in the world to Rocky, he defended his title against fighters who peaked at light heavy in Charles, Moore and Cockell, a tiny cruiser in LaStarza and an old cruiser in Walcott ... the comparisons you make are all reaches at best.

 

dismissing charles and walcott as lightheavies and cruisers is silly for two reasons IMO

1) rocky wasn't exactly a big heavyweight himself

2) charles and walcott are both top 20 atg heavyweights.

I don't think a comparison between sharkey and rocky stands up. perhaps i don't now enough about him so I won't comment style wise. but in black and white achievement I can't think think of a reasonable criteria that places sharkey above rocky.

 

I don't think so. I simply think that they believe that people like you completely devalue any heavy from the era with perhaps the exceptions of Corbett, Jeffries, and Fitzsimmons(whom you have all individually tried to chip away at in this or other related threads in this whole conflict) which doesn't make sense. If those guys were great, then the guys they beat were at least good. I don't see them bigging up any of these guys to be top 10 heavies or spectacular fighters at all.

You are just so offended by the mere speculation of any of these guys beating Rocky that you perceive it to be so.

Um, Corbett, Munroe, and Ruhlin all height, weight and reach on Marciano.

Sharkey was about the same size, maybe 4-5 pound lighter and a tad shorter, but with better reach and other measurements.

If Jeffries fought Marciano, you would say he was a cruiser weight too.

Historians alive who saw boxing from 1890-1960, felt Rocky was a solid champion, but behind Dempsey, Jeffries, Louis, and Johnson. In fact I've never seen a historian alive in the early 1900's rate Rocky above the four. Can they all be wrong? Not likely.

 

Corbett's best weight was between 178 /184 lbs , so no weight advantage over Rocky.
Munroe's weight is a subject of contention. His ring record is derisory.
Ruhlin was the biggest man of any ability that Jeffries faced ,apart from his disastrous comeback against Johnson.
I do agree with most of the latter part of this post.
Sports writers of the 50's were unanimous in their opinion that Marciano was a crude facsimile of Dempsey
.He was also not considered to be in the same class as any of the others mentioned.
