how could it not. floyd has not fought the toughest fights in the better part of a decade so his true ability against the best fighters has yet to be determined. losing to a guy thet he has most of the advantages over and who he claims should be an easy fight, would certainly have many questioning how good he truly would have performed in all those fights he missed due to retirement, vacations, fighters not bringing anything to the table, fighters with losses, top rank fighters, etc...

If the fight happens. Pacquiao first has to beat Mosley and agree to fight Mayweather. Mayweather needs to get his legal issues behind him. The question should not be about the damage done to who ever loses lagacy but what the win dose for the winner. Love either one or hate either one they are both within reach of the ATG top 25. The win assuming they only fight once places the winner within reach of the top 10.

In my eyes it won't decrease his stature much from where I think of him now: a super talented guy who has rarely been challenged.

The beauty of Duran/Hearns/Hagler/Benitez/Leonard was you had so many super talented guys losing, challenging each other, doing well in some and badly in others. Duran going the distance with Hagler and beating Barkley is sick, and two or three or 10 bad performances are not important to his legacy.

Stylistically I do think Pac is the most problematic foe Mayweather will ever have fought - Floyd usually relies on the techniques of the small elusive guy who can't be hit. Well, here is an awkward fast accurate left handed guy who hits kind of hard and doesn't get tired, so I can see how that would concern him, even if he is bigger. He never "fights bigger", as Oscar did not in the latter part of his career, and it did not serve him well against Pac. He should have just tried to run him over with strength.

Everybody loses eventually, but that doesn't mean they weren't great. It just means either the styles didn't match up well or their time was a little past.

I bet you when Floyd wins though, the recent fight syndrome will be so high that he'll be in at least the thrid of ESB's top 10 atg list :deal

The idea of Floyd losing is the only thing that gives this fight any relevance. Once round 5 of Mayweather vs Pacquiao comes and it starts to look like all of Mayweather's other 120-108 victories people will wonder why they ever thought this was THEE fight to see. I personally don't think anybody boxing today is anywhere close to his skill level or has a chance to beat him.

First of all if Mayweather lost to Pac, Larry Merchant would cum on himself. I think it would most definitely damage his legacy. He has a very good resume but his legacy is predicated on his 0. It is his fault in that regard. Stating how no one has the blueprint to beat him and how other fighters have lost but he remains undefeated. So basically he has to retire undefeated and he has to beat Manny as well.

:deal It depends greatly. What if its a close fight with Floyd landing cleaner punches, but Manny outworking Floyd? Or Manny losing the fight, but an accidental headbutt limits Floyds performance like what happened with Morales fighting with one eye? Or Manny can get another gift decision like he got vs Marquez in the rematch . Those are only 3 scenerios where Floyd wouldnt look bad losing on paper, but since hes hyped himself so much and known for his ego trips really anytype of losing would.make him look bad.

It would hurt his legacy but thats nothing compared to what it would do to his life.

I think it would send him on a downward spiral that would see him ending up in jail sucking dick for crack.

A little to take into consideration, the result of the fight and the way it is received

what if its a bs call or a jobbing on the cards

    what if its a fluke

also what if Floyd were to win the event so to speak like nobody says losing to Lennox hurt Vitali in the long run

plus look at Floyds age and inactivity and the fact that Manny is now higher on the p4p lists in most ppls eyes

if this happened in 09 or earlier it would have been enormous in the light of it now i dont really know

i think at this point in time the upside for floyd is huge and the down side for Manny is even greater

many believe that mayweather is the greatest of this era cuz he has that 0 now if he loses to manny who in their eyes isnt the greatest it would hurt mayweathers image.
mayweather can now retire and say he is the best of this era and many will agree with him some will say he isnt cuz he ducked pac but that is pretty much all they can do

It wouldn't hurt either one. However to be honest although I don't think Floyd losing is even remotely possible. It wouldn't bother me at all to see Floydie lose. Because if he did lose, I guarantee you would see him fighting again because maybe nobody would give a **** about him anymore. At least 2x's per year! Also, I'm a firm believer that you can't be a great influence on the sport unless you take a loss comeback and redeem yourself alla Ali, Leonard, Patterson. I know money is a tough S.O.B. but I'd like to see how he would handle it.
