    Hi fellas, I went a 'missing for a few days, taking a break on the beautiful Inishturk island of Ireland's West coast, about as close as you can get around here to stepping back to the time of Sharkey and Maher!
    The heaviest recorded weight for Maher up to 1900-after that he was dissipated and often out of condition- was 181 for the Ruhlin fight in1899. As late as 1891, v Lambert, he weighed 166, when he was 24 years old. His training regime was very tough, aerobic and anaerobic, and he typically only came down from about 190.
    Peter was just under 6 feet;
    Reach 74.
    Biceps 13 1/4
    Forearm 12 1/4
    Wrist 7 3/4
    Neck 17 1/2
    Chest 40
    Waist 31
    Thigh 23 1/2
    Calf 15 1/2
    Ankle 8 1/8

    but he's not. Marciano's naturally the bigger man at 200 + lbs, and his fighting weight is also more. Sharkey even came into a fight in his prime at 173lb. Marciano never weighed under 187lb once he had the title.

    As he does to me. And he said in an interview once that he walked around at a little above 200 pounds. So the size differential between he and the Rock as far as walk around weight probably wasn't all that much either way. He definitely has him beat in chest though.

    Davey Pearl was good friends with Sonny Liston and used to train with him a bunch. I asked him once how it was that Sonny looked so large but in his prime he usually only weighed between 210-215 pounds. Pearl told me that Sonny always looked larger than his fight weight suggested. He pointed out that there are certain types of people who sweat like a fountain from even the smallest exertion and that Sonny sweated more than any man he'd ever seen. Gallons of it were pouring off of him within 5 minutes of their jogs. The point he was making was that some drop a lot more water than others. Hence why Sonny looked like he weighed 220 when the scales read 210-212.

    Maybe Sharkey just dropped more water when training for his 20-25 rounders than Rocky did when he was training for his 10-15 rounders. Who knows? I think it was for the McCoy fight where Tom and the Kid both announced their weights, which was sometimes done in those days in contrast to Marciano's time, where weigh-ins were official.
