For the first time in a long time, my fellow peers were all talking about a boxing match. Ortiz vs Berto to be exact, which shocked the hell out of me since these aren't well known fighters for casual fans. I have been seeing less and less UFC commercials and more news about boxing (even if it is Pacquiao). I'm not trying to bash MMA, it's just nice to see the sport that I love finally getting back the recognition it deserves. Is anyone else noticing this change or is it just me?
2011 has been a great year so far, If we get rid of the bull**** organizations and could stick to 1 belt per division and get rid of cherrypicking but anyone taking on all comers boxing would be one of the top sports.
Definitely. I believe the original downfall was from the shitty politics of the sport, but to add to my original post even other professional athletes (football players) are beginning to migrate to boxing
MMA has a life expectancy. Like, you see it, be like ohhhh that's badass. Then you start learning the tricks/techniques/jargon. Then you think it makes you muy especial. Then you get in fights or try it out on your doods until you run into someone who kinda knows what they're doing and they have their way with you and you realize what you know isn't special. MMA had the bulk of its doodz go through the bndwagon stager a a while wehabck. A while back, that is. PARDON MY INEBRIATION. So now even the latecoming fans of MMA have gone through the stages and are now all part of a niche group and know their place. That made sense, of you don't understand it's on account of that's some next-level ****.
^O.O didn't quite understand your wording but I get your point. I said it before, mma is a fad and looks like it's losing steam; I do think it's great to learn more than 1 art... but master 1 first before jumping around

imo ...i think boxing has..had some good fights...lately...the more fighter that actual fight other good fighters the better the sport will be... but aslong as promoters milk their fighters holding off.fights the boxing public wants to see...for tryin to make it a bigger fight....(gamboa juanma...wont happen for awhile ...may/pac...) ...promoters need to realize better fights equal more interest in the long run.....
boxing had one great fight after the other and with mosley-pac and wlad - haye too come, 2011 will be a great boxing year :happy
Great post. There have been a lot of great matchups lately, The Fighter has sent a lot of people to youtube, and networks have been promoting boxing a bit more. I think boxing has been almost as enjoyable the last 2-3 years as when I was younger.

Who knows really, to me there has been great fights every single year I've watched it, it may not be the TOP guys all the time, but I'm a real fight fan, any great fight will do, its nice if they make more big fights but there is still plenty to follow, not every fight will be a great one, in fact I'm sure I watch 8-10 before seeing a really good fight, but that goes with any sport, if you truly love it you watch it anyways. As for MMA, well that's just another sport entirely, I still don't get that whole argument between fight fans, its like comparing baseball and tennis, yes you both swing clubs, but in a totally different way. Nothing compares to the sweet science to me.
Yep. I have many hardcore MMA friends that has turned to boxing more and more lately. One even asked that do I have John Ruiz career set!!
My friends have been doing the same, I brought them to the gym with me and showed them a thing or two; after that they have become hooked
It's been a fun year so far and all these upsets are proof that prospects and up and comers have been getting easy rides. If Kirkland, Lemieux, Lopez etc had simply been outboxed instead of knocked out how many of them would have an L on their records? There are still tons of good fights in the pipeline too
