Boxing viewing figures in the UK

    Im sure its a fixed amount no way will it be more for Commonwealth otherwise Commonwealth fights would be popping up as headliners more often.

    70k here get's you Hall-Donnelly, Walsh-Kays, Murray-Karim El Ouazghari.

    50k in the US gets you Chris Arreola and Josesito Lopez-Mike Dallas Jr, Peter Manfredo-Daniel Eduaord and Edwin Rodriguez-Aaron Pryor Jr.

    If that is true and I am somewhat dubious of that figure, but if it is, then that is a joke.

    You're not comparing like with like. Sky is our number one boxing broadcaster. ESPN is number three in the US and really nothing more than a fallback for fights that can't find a spot on HBO/Showtime.

    I don't understand it either. It is either incorrect or who ever made the arrangement thinks because the Commonwealth has more countries in it, then the Commonwealth Title must be worth more money:nut

    I have a suspicion though that the wages some of the boxers expect are inflated here when you look at the calibre of stars and the paydays they take in the US on some of these shows it makes you wonder.

    Glen Johnon got $12.5k for a fight recently can you imagine getting any of our fighters at Euro level out for that?

    I'm not sure, HBO and Showtime covers world class Boxing and pay millions of $ for the licensing fees, so I see no link between them and Sky.

    Whereas ESPN FFN pays a similair licensing fee to Sky and their shows are usually made up of prospects and fringe contenders, just like Sky SNF.

    Yusaf Mack, to think a top tier fighter like GJ got only 7.5k :admin

    I cannot claim to know Boxers purses over here because they are very secretive over purses and licensing fees, whereas it's all public knowledge in the States but I do know that going into Jason Booth's fight with Matthew Marsh he had never made a purse above £15k and I cannot imagine that most fighters who headline on SNF will make more than £25k. Which if I am right beggars the question of, where's the money gone.

    If Sky got rid of Maloney then that would be a huge step forward. He has been taking the **** for ages.

    It shows you that you need a name in the mix to get good figures. A name needs good match making and marketing.

    Some of those numbers are really low.

    Setanta figures were shite.

    I know they were much loved on here but overall I feel they were bad for boxing, the fact boxing was on there meant exposure was very small and long term I would have expected interest to dwindle.

    Yeah, it didn't matter they provided us with fights that wouldn't be on TV otherwise and that they were breaking up the monopoly...:roll:

    Thing with Setanta was there advertising and marketing was rubbish. They found it too hard to get new subscribers and I reckon even the subscribers they had probably didnt know some of the fights were actually on!

    I am shocked Haye vs Maccarinelli only drew 136,000. Setanta pushed that fight loads. That was a big domestic fight and would have done massive ratings on Sky Sports or Sky Box Office.

    I have updated the OP up to 28 May 2011. Unfortunately couldn't find much viewing figures for US Boxing so I only bothered with the British figures. :good
