He's flat footed, no jab, slow, plodding forward, no snap on his punches, and no body defense. Even a shot to **** 40yr old Jeff Lacy or Vargas could destroy him. God forbid they feed him to Mayorga.

This is just one video. Didn't look that great for Diaz, won't bother analyzing it. It is what it is.

 

This is a good way to highlight the differences between the two sports. Everything Diaz is doing is from his MMA arsenal (leaning forward, grabbing, running and punching) and just shows how different the two disciplines are.

It's like going from racing dirt bikes to those crotch rockets...or racing trucks to racing cars. I wouldn't say he sucks, he's just spent his life on a different art and it doesn't transfer over at the same to another sport (ala Chad Johnson and soccer). Hope I put enough tedious analogies in there, but I do like how this highlights things.

I think it's probably too late for Diaz to deprogram his MMA training and start over with boxing (if he was going to try to do it at an elite level). Too many habits engraved, and he's too old to make it work at the top level. Seems like there have been only a handful of fighters who started boxing at a late age that were successful, and even at that, they came in with a BLANK slate (no established bad habits)

Yes, per a boxing standpoint. Not necessarily the MMA standpoint (he's clearly been successful with the aforementioned style). Guess you missed the point I was trying to make re:the video highlighting the stylistic difference between the two disciplines.

 

Yes, because he has better boxing technique than the mayority of MMA fighters, he have usefull jab for example.

Im not a MMA hater, Im MMA fan.But the boxing technique is still so bad in this sport, and that is admitted for the mayority of mma fighters.But this is changing and now we see mma fighters training with only boxers trainers like Freddie Roach and they are starting to incorpore a lot of boxing basics, wich is tranfered in results.GSP and BJ Penn are good examples of this.

 

That's the guy who is supposed to fight Vargas in the boxing ring? Footwork sucks, no head movement. That's the reverse of Toney trying to fight Randy Coture.

He was out of his depth VERY quickly. Pure striking is incredibly difficult and goes against your instincts hence the awkward defensive moves. No single leg or full guard when things get tough.

It's only recently been made private. I watched it fine earlier this morning.

 

Its the lack of an inside game that is most notable - every time Henry comes in all Diaz can do is hold on for dear life. Obviously that's the part of striking that is most changed in MMA due to ability to hold the back of the head and bring in elbows and knees. The other thing as well is that Diaz doesn't seem that comfortable using the jab to set up distance - again something he would usually do with a leg kick rather than a punch in MMA.
