I just don't understand what this guy has done to be above JMM and Nonito Donaire in the Ring Magazine's p4p rankings. Was it the way he beat Williams? Williams was never that good anyway, was he? The Pavlik win was pretty impressive, but was it more impressive than knocking out Darchinyan andMontiel? I think JMM's record speaks for itself.I just don't get it.:huh
because he is coming in as a underdog the whole time upsetting the odds in dominating fashion, and the sanctioning bodies always **** him over taking his belts away, judge rob him etc. Martinez has great skill and his momentum is awesome where he looks great as a underdog winning those big fights, you could argue about donaire but he is definitely higher ranked than marquez. And come may 1's he will be number 2 in the p4p list and rightfully so.
I know everyone hates Wladimir klitschko but his last 10 fights have been for a title and he has defended his title every time. That counts for something doesnt it? I'd rank him above Martinez. Martinez just hasn't done enough IMO.
If we're talking about the Ring ratings: Martinez vs. Williams 1 - MD Loss to Paul Williams, who was rated very highly by the Ring (top 3 or 4 if I am not mistaken), Martinez got into the top 10. I think he was was first rated at #8 or 9. Martinez vs. Pavlik - His win propelled him even further in the list (top 5-6, not sure) Then vs. Williams II, he got his ranking now. Prior to Williams I, I think Martinez was unranked.
I get it if you look at their total resumes, martinez was wasting his time in spain but since 2008 he has been coming on strong and took on tough opposition and looked very good. Martinez is a beast and based on the what have you done lately criteria and the way he fights in the ring he desevres to be ranked there.
Beat Cintron 3 times in the same night Beat Paul Williams arguably twice, once with the KOOTY Beat the Lineal Middleweight champion Destroyed an undefeated champion And p4p isn't just resume-based hence him being above people like Wlad (some people don't include resume at all) It's about all round skills and H2H
If you include Floyd in the rankings, Martinez is definetely top 4, him and Donaire are interchangeable. I think Martinez is a better MW than JMM is a LW.
So many fighters too choose from I felt like a guy like Calderon was not always high enough, but then again what does that now make Segura how bout Pong how bout Chris John How bout Wlad Klitschko how bout Steve Cunnigham Bradley? Bute? Ward? Froch? I mean there are so many fighters who have great accomplishments or are great fighters and get left behind
P4P lists are somebody's opinion. Make your own it means the same thing, nothing. I do happen to think Martinez is a good fighter, but not great. I know he's the next new thing, but his age and style for his age don't mix, I fully expect his reign to be short lived. But what do I know? LOL, time will tell everything.
I had Paul Williams number 3 prp before the Martinez fight. Well he knocked him the hell out so there you go
He should be #4 IMO but that's not a slight on Sergio. Pac, Floyd and Donaire are just extraordinary.
I've noticed that almost anytime posters talk about Pavlik they talk as if he is a one dimensional hype job who has never been a world class fighter. The exception is when posters talk about Martinez/Pavlik. In those cases Pavlik suddenly transforms into a great champion and an awesome win. The hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.
