Danny Flexen will no doubt be on this thread soon, he might be able to shed some light on the subject

regardless if it is an English mag or not- saying "England dominated in Finland" is false reporting.

obviously Ireland did, and considering our population that is a bigger achievement again.

i would like to think- if was covering a boxing event for an irish publication and katmando won more medals than ireland - i would lead with the fact ireland done well but give credit were credit was due..

I am a fan of boxing news- but i get were the lads are coming with this...if you wanted to be biased call it England's boxing news- not boxing news...

Well he is hardly going to say that it is biased is he JD?

Its a funny one, I really like Boxing News, I subscribe but it sometimes come across as not just a Anglocentric publication but Londoncentric.

I can only imagine how excited they are getting about Groves v DeGale.

As I have said before, its only natural, boxing is built on "Hometown Heros" people get more excited about people from their own area in boxing and if your staff is full on people focused on the London scene then that is going to come out in content of the publication. Its human nature.

I've said before they need a bigger geographical spread of writers.

I think it's most likely to be to do with the demography of their customer base. Most people reading it will be English so there's always going to be a slant towards English fighters. No agenda past trying to sell more copies.

I've had the same discussion with welsh people over the BBC coverage of the 6 Nations (rugby) which is supposed to represent everybody equally. There's more English people watching than the rest combined so it's always going to have an English bias. With BN in particular, I donlt think there's a bias when it comes to the reporting of actual flights, just the amount of column inches, which makes commercial sense.

Good post. I think almost everything boils down to numbers and demographics. They are a business after all. You see it in the coverage of all sports, like pundits on Sky hanging on the nuts of the native football players when the foreign players carry the league and making it out like it's the best league in the world when it clearly isn't. They have to pander to the people who make up the majority of their customer base as it's in their best interests as a business.

Whats its remit because it seems to cover the "Four Nations" because the same to cover Ireland (both north and south) on par with Wales and Scotland.

Also Northern Ireland is part of the UK

The IABA is all Ireland so their team is representative of BOTH Britain and Eire, like with rugby union and cricket.

If you are boxing for Ireland and not in Team GB then you are not a 'British Boxer' even if from North of the border (I guess). I am sure those fighters have a choice on fighting for team GB or Ireland.

I wonder if Boxing News will give adequate weight to Scot Josh Taylor's suberb gold medal in the recent Belgrade Tournament?
