it makes sense in a way because he already has a good relationship with all the promoters because they are who feed him all his inside info. Either way I am not sure about this it could be good or really bad....

I think it's a good idea to have a proper expert on hand to help decide what's best for the fans but the problem is, Rafael isn't an expert. He has a limited knowledge of many fighters - Has he ever mentioned, say, Roman Gonzalez? A lot of American media ignore divisions they don't have elite fighters in and that certainly fits Rafael too. I don't think he has that much knowledge, honestly.

Aside from that, he's heavily biased. He has his favourites and guys he dislikes way too much. Does anyone genuinely think that he would be impartial if he had a say in the Klitschko/Haye or Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations? Of course not.

Good idea in principle but Rafael probably isn't knowledgable or fair enough to do a good job for us fans.

Dan isn't the best scorer and he a bit biased but he could be pretty good at this.

    seriously......

"rafael knows the fights fans want to see".......ya thats great...so do about 200 posters here on ESB.....that doesnt make it any easier to actually get both sides to agree to fights and have all the financial terms agreed to by the fighters and networks.....

i do not like the guy.....and ive met him at weigh ins in vegas...i mean hes a nice guy.....but the guy got into boxing because it was a job..i dont think it was a passion of his before he became a journalist(i dont know his whole history so i could be wrong)....the guy first started covering auto racing for espn i think.....

i also dont trust a guy who prefers grape juice or a sprite to a beer or a whiskey on the rocks

Nah he got his start doing different sports like most young sports writers do and started writing boxing full time at USA today, THEN moved up to be ESPN's boxing guy. He isn't some random schlub who fell into writing boxing, at least he can say that for himself.

Terrible idea. Dan Rafael doesn't know **** about boxing.

Seriously, he is completely ingorant of the international scene. Anyone who is non-American and not a huge global name is off his radar.

He referred to Dzinziruk as "some nobody". :patsch

He didn't know jack **** about Javier Maciel as a world title challenger, when most of us were able to scout him with minimal research AND IT ISN'T OUR ****ING JOB.

**** Dan Rafael; he'd make a HORRIBLE matchmaker.

greenburg was a journalist before joining hbo. lol. take that for what its worth.

good thing though. he might know more about boxing than the hbo guys. could help. although hbo hasn't done too bad with ortiz-berto and morales-maidana.
