a boxer being too big for his division

  1. Eh.... I think my point flew right over your head. If boxing, as an entire sport, would adopt my proposed rules (which will never happen, don't worry), all fighters coming into their fights will be evenly matched (size-wise), healthy, and hydrated.

The cause of 'sick fighters' getting in the ring is WEIGHT DRAIN and DEHYDRATION. Who in their right mind would come into a fight weight drained and dehydrated? Only those fighters who think they'll be coming in with a size advantage.

These rules would force fighters to fight at their natural, healthy weight. They wouldn't have to play games with the scale, lose 30 pounds in training camp, rehydrate 10 or 15 on the day of the fight. Thats what causes 'sick fighters' to get into the ring.

I don't know about you, but I like seeing fighters in the ring at their strongest physical peak against eachother. But when you got 90% (a guess) of fighters cutting weight and weighing 2 divisions higher 24 hours after the weigh-in, you've got a bunch of weakened guys fighting eachother. One guy handles the rehydration better, he usually wins.

Boxing is supposed to be about the actual BOXING where you win or lose the fight IN THE RING, not because of shenanigans on the scale. Perhaps the part you missed is the fact that this would force most fighters to fight in their real weight division. Weighing in officially 2 (or 6, whatever) hours before the fight pretty much takes cutting and rehydrating out of the equation.

  2. What about it? If a fighter wants to move up in weight... he gains a little bit of weight... OR he just makes sure to be in shape and ready to challenge a bigger fighter, just like it's supposed to be.

Sounds like a bunch of lame ass excuses, isn't it? It comes down to talent and skillz. IMO.Skills pay the bills. So Oscar and Arguello were cheats. Because they are tall for their weight class.I don't mind it at all. To me if a fighter moves up to his suppose natural weight eventually. It's all good yo!...But if he stays in the division for too long then he is milking it.

  7. What.... the hell.... are you talking about??? :huh

Nobody said that. Where the **** did you extrapolate that from exactly?

  8. BTW, not gonna call him a cheat... but Oscar's first 20 or so fights were against dudes who were way smaller and took the fights on short notice in a division they had no business fighting in. It was a running joke in my house when I was a kid... "Who will be the midget Oscar beats up this week?"

What if they have the same day weigh in and the taller fighter still whoops on the smaller boxer?

Great vid! Look at him taking out ATG in his Prime legend EVANDER REAL DEAL Holyfield.
    :good

I think his hairy back actually helped his punches do more damage! More mass to the punch.

It's more about weight than height.

  13. Are we talking about height or are we talking about weight?

Either way, if you take a fight in a division higher than your own... YOUR FAULT if you get your ass kicked. HIS FAULT if you kick his. :deal
