MMA has always had a huge chip on its shoulder when it came to trashing boxing. In fact every interview from 2005-2007 which introduced MMA to the world had to include the typical Dana White speech about how boxing is dead, dying, your fathers sport, mma is taking over etc etc. I don't give a dam if White and Rogan are closet boxing fans, they sh1t on the sport for years in order to promote theirs. Boxing fans can be just as negative but it always seems like MMA had to prove, or better yet 'disprove' boxing. This includes bloggers (douchebag writer from sherdog whose name is not worth mentioning), idiot MMA 'journalists' crashing boxing press conferences and the typical indoctrinated fans who pride themselves with the mantra that boxing is dead and that boxing is 'not real fighting'. I've seen too many of these people both online and in the real world to see that it's no coincidence, they have been trained to crap on a sport that they never watched. Plenty of MMA fighters have talked crap too, this doesn't bother me as much because they can say what they want and the same goes for boxers talking smack. Sure there are combat sport fans, and fans from both sides are coming around to respecting each as worthy sports but don't spin this.
As a fan of both boxing and MMA, I can tell you that MMA is starting to fade. I see this with friends, ratings numbers, PPV buyrates, etc. Will this trend continue? Probably so. More and more fighters in MMA are fighting to win and get good records rather than fight in "exciting" fights. That kind of takes away the novelty that MMA rode in on, that it was supposed to be more dramatic than boxing. Good news for the sweet science.
MMA's trendiness is starting to wane. I think those fans hoping that MMA takes over the world (only slightly exaggerating what they are thinking) will be disappointed to see that it will always be a niche sport with a loyal audience. Just like boxing.
Agreed -- MMA seems to have peaked and now appears on the decline. It probably will find a niche, and that's all, just like you said. :thumbsup
MMA is here to stay, if it was a fad it would have went away awhile ago.. MMA came around in the early 90s. Actually it was a fad for me as i was really into it when it first came out when Gracie,Shamrock,Tank Abbot,Kimo etc etc were on the scene.. Now i could careless although i will go out of my way to see Cain Velasquez or Charley Valencia(old friend). As for Boxing yes i agree with you.. Things seem to have gottem more intresting lately. Last weekend some of my friends who are casual fans were raving about the ORtiz/Berto fight like if they were hardcore fans, they even brought it up before me.
I've been a fan of ufc since the very first....no weight classes etc just totally raw. as ufc became popular, some great bangers were around and fights really were that exciting but as it became more popular, fighters became much more dedicated, disciplined and scientific in the approach (nothing wrong with that). For me, a decline set in quite some time ago, fights just didnt have the edge that made ufc what it is.....it's taken itself way to seriously. It's a different kind of fighting and one that brings a different kind of fan. for me, ufc was never going to supercede boxing, in my mind, i lost interest in ufc a long time ago and rarely pay any attention to it.
duhhhhhhh b-hop ..... STOP REPEATING URSELF,FOOL. i'd like to see him put to sleep, rear naked choke....by a man with panties on! lol. boxing is my sport but trying to suggest mma/ufc is bunch of sweaty men wearing panties.....yeah rite on dude.
:good Whats so funny bro? Different sports... I don't personally like this fight because it is just a brawl, but it is exciting. Just like Gatti-Ward, only with less technique- http://mmahits.com/fight-video/mma-video/wec-48-leonard-garcia-vs-chan-sung-jung/ or in my opinion the best MMA grappling exchange ever, Daisuke Nakamura vs Hideo Tokoro is very exciting(mute the audio)- [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBe0k4_T9bQ[/ame]
And also if undefeated stoped being so damn overrated young prospects wouldn't hesitate to get in there and give us some good scraps that would have boxing soaring in ratings.
MMA is still on the rise, go onto Sherdog or The MMA Undergound forum and tell me MMA is on the decline. MMA is still in a very early stage in it's development.
