Boxing's Great Enigma - Floyd Mayweather

Contraversy sells, and Floyd is good at creating contraversy. His 0 is also what keeps him marketable and in demand. People will tune in each and every time to see if this will be the night that he loses. They just want to see the look on his face when his oh so precious 0 is stripped away from him.

I have no problem with Floyd doing what he has to do in order to sell his fights. What I dont understand is how he can play the role of villian, then cry his eyes out and complain like a 5yr old with sand in her clit when he doesnt get praised by fans and the rest of the boxing world.

so you are gonna tell me floyd didnt reach superstardom after he broke free from arum? that he and haymon didnt execute a plan they had all along? this is why this author has no point with number 10.....because floyd broke free and became a superstar....so it tells me floyds beef with arum was legit....but you stay delusional bro

 

It's more than just controversy. He is a great and rare talent, even the most ardent Floyd hater has to see that.

Even casual fans that do hate him admire his talents. Controversy will only get you but so far (although it is an element with him).

thats part of the reason many tune in....and they want to see him beat because of how he portrays himself...which is marketing and promotion...nobody cared to see him get beat when he was with arum because nobody knew about him other than diehards.....now everyone knows him.....because he broke free of arum and became a huge celebrity

 

Great skills only get you so far though. Had Floyd been Mr nice guy and was a well mannered man, he would not be in such demand. He would just be another skilled slick black fighter. Its his 0, and his brash attitude that keep him relevant.

Look at Mayorga. Loses every single big fight yet still lands on HBO PPV cards. Why? He's entertaining.

 

Yeah, I dont get the too much too son argument. When he really hit it big with the DLH fight, that was 2007, when he was 30 years old, fighting in his 5th weight class. If anything, that seems a bit late.

 

So the fact that he is one of the best (if not THE best) fighters in the world has nothing to do with it?

 

And he presents very little threat due to his lack of skill against elite fighters. Also, Mayorga himself can't sell anything as far as PPV.

 

it is a bit late....he had a plan and arum wouldnt let him execute it...they got out of it and hit it big without bobby.....and yet some people cant understand or comprehend that....and dont see it as a reason ole bobby would not want his golden cow to fight floyd

It plays a small role. There are plenty great boxers who never got the recognition they deserved for the simple fact they werent exciting.
