A draw with Garcia rates as high as a W over Barkley. I too think RD v Armstrong head to head , i'd favour Hands of Stone. RD was also a top contender at 130 just prior to taking 135 pound title.

But 3 titles simultaneously keeps him head of RD and i think ahead of even SRR as a true pound for pound fighter.

"Armstrong was no longer a championship fighter, but he still held his own against top-10 contenders. From 1943 until his retirement two years later he had 35 bouts, with an 11-5-1 record against top-10 competition" - From his ibhof.com profile page.

That's great. He's a true ATG and they don't make fighters like him anymore. One of the greatest fighters to ever step in that ring.

Exceptional Post. An extraordinary number of the contenders listed here - and all of the HOFers sans Benny Bass - were rated at the time Armstrong beat them too. I'm kicking myself right now for losing the e-mail hhascup sent me awhile back.

    :rofl :verysad

    Oh **** off, you. :deal

In terms of skill application, Duran edges it I think, as he could be almost untouchable at times. Armstrong's 'perpetual motion' and head movement saw him evade and eat a lot of bombs alike, but his chin was exceptional and he could not be outworked. In terms of results, he should be considered as such by a country mile.

The more you consider the magnitude of what he achieved, the more I rate him.

At a given point in time he was the king from 126-147 it's unreal. He then deserved (imo) a victory over the top Mw in the world.

Exceptionally gifted fighter who's skills still look good on film (Just watch him v Barney Ross)

He's in my top 3, and my number 1 choice for achievement.

Classic. That's future avatar material, since I can't seem to keep the same one for more than 48-72 hours lately.

I can't see it your way because I've got Henry as a firm #2, and Charles #5. He'd have to jump Langford and Greb too, which I just can't do. That little sequence there, from October '37 to November '38... It's about the greatest thing since sliced bread, and only encompasses a portion of his 59-1-1 (51 KO) peak. Even when he was past it, he was still beating great opposition on a consistent basis.

I've got no problem with Armstrong outranking Charles, honestly. I disagree with it, but only slightly, because the argument for it is perfectly valid. Langford and Greb though? I agree fully that it's a jump too far Ezz. All I'm saying is that it's a jump too far for Hank, too.

Charles has a resume at least as impressive and it easily consists of the greater top wins, Charles scaled as many divisions and fought against greater weight disparities more frequently, Charles prime saw him go - for all intents and purposes - undefeated in over 40 fights and about 6 years against a God-damned ridiculous list of opponents, Charles is at no real disadvantage in terms of longevity, Charles looks spectacular in the bit of prime footage we have (blasting away ATG Lloyd Marshall inside 6 rounds), and looks brilliant even post-prime, and so on. Calling Armstrong the greater fighter is understandable. I just don't get how it can be such a firm position. He holds no decisive edge in any single category of comparison. They're very, very close.

    #'s 4 and 5.
