Why do Floyd get so much stick for saying he fights for money?

Sugar Ray Robinson and Rocky Marciano both said they despised the brutality of the sport and were only in it for the money. Rocky always maintained his opinion of the sport, he said he wish he could've been a baseball player instead.

As a matter of fact, people tend to overlook how hard it was to strike deals with Sugar Ray, he wouldn't fight if the money wasn't right, likewise with Floyd Mayweather. Yet Floyd gets so much stick for pointing out the exact same things these two beloved heroes pointed out.

    Why is this?

Because all other fighters fight only for pride. They dont care about money. They would do it for free, if asked....

I think people are made because he's not fighting for the money, he's not fighting period. I don't think people give a rat's ass as to why a fighter is fighting so long as he's fighting.

I think that in Western Culture, there has always been a certain ideal of the unpaid amateur athlete going back to the ancient olympics. Christian ethics warns us against greed, etc.Mercenaries are looked down upon.

Perhaps the critics are more vocal today because of the internet and the easy with which they can now express their opinions?

    and that also.

if An NFL, NBA, MLB player etc said I play for money they would be hated.
But when Floyd says that and is hated *****s believe it is a conspiracy against Floyd.
