Who do all of Arum's fighter mimick the same line when asked

about a potential opponent?

"I'm just a fighter and my job is to fight. My promoter handles who I fight next"

We get this same response from pretty much all Top Rank fighters. Especially Cotto and Pac. Is Arum instructing his fighters not to call anyone out? If so, what's the harm in doing so?

Its almost like a robotic answer. Seems as if its programmed into thier heads to automatically say that whenever asked about a potential fight with another fighter.

My question is, how would it do any harm to voice who you would like to face next? Its as if its forbidden to call anyone out.

 

Arum likes to have 100% control over his fighters. If they call someone out, and Arum doesnt want the fight, then it looks bad when the fight doesnt happen.

 

Its quit annoying hearing these generic programmed answers after every bout. I wish Pac would say something like:

"I want you Floyd! Yeah, stop hiding, vacationing, or whatever it is you're doing. Lets just get it on. Stop making silly excuses not to fight me and stop creating roadblocks. The ball is in your court now. Lets see if you're man enough to step inside this ring with me" :bbb

Oh man, I would pay anything to see that happen!

 

I can agree with that. But Arum likes his fighters to be easily controlled. Ones who speak out (Floyd, Nonito, Gamboa) wind up getting punished for speaking out (or the relationship turns sour).

 

apparently you guys dont know negeotiation. tippin gyour hand either way exposes you to exploitation and being leveraged against.

having leverage into negeotiations means you having an out or another altnerative. by acalling out someone you put yourself in a bind. arum knows this and thats why he's stayed around for so long.

don't be so naive people. boxing is about making money. to make money you gotta learn how to play hardball. everyone does it.

because that is Arum's job, not the fighter's. Why would the fighter do someone else's job on top of his own? Especially when he's hiring the best promoter in the business.

 

Its best for both the fighter and the promoters wallet to stay cool, it probably is a programmed answer as all TR fighters say it about the same. They want the fights that bring the most money too, and they are not the guys who know who that is, that's TR's job to figure out all the demographics of how to bring together the most attention to a particular fight. Its a business not a school fight. I agree it would be nice if Manny called out Floyd, but why stir the **** pot, every body knows that fight is there if Floyd wants it.

The promoter works for the fighter, not the other way around. If a fighter wants a particular fight, it's up to the promoter to get it. Most fighters who enter boxing don't realize this and have very little to no business sense.

The promoter can suggest plans of action, but if the promoter is telling you who to fight and when, you should be able to disagree if you dont think the fight is a good one.

But most fighters don't realize this until it's too late...
