Let me start the ball rolling Ali-frazier 3 Benn-McClellan Eubank-Benn Corrales-Castillo 1 Morales-MAB 1 (although no way Morales won that) I'm sure someone will quote McVea-Jeanette but we can't see that 1 There's plenty on the lower level side of things ofcourse and Mitchell-Johansson and Moore-Macklin are pure wars where the winner walked through fire
FOTC. Smokin' Joe walked through hell, his Physical-Prime was literally beaten out of him from the brutal punishment he absorbed in order to earn his supremely great victory. Frazier went from Peak to Shopworn.
Ezzard Charles after beating Joe Louis [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHObXnwGXQ4&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
I don't remember Charles-Louis being life and death and I don't think facial punishment is always indicitive of a war/beating, is Conn-Apostolli on film?
PowerPuncher, Take a look at that video. Charles eye is completely shut. His cheek bones are swelled up to the size of golf balls. Louis did some horrible damage to Ezzard Charles. Charles was the clear winner, but wasn't the title of your thread "worst beating" a winner has taken? I bet Charles' own mother wouldn't recognize him for weeks afterward.
To the best of my knowledge, no. But Klompton would know better than I. As far as wars go this was of the more vicious ones. These guys really went at it.
Yes I realise this but I'd take 2 closed eyes and being bruised up over a broke jaw, shadow on the brain, 2 bust kidneys, broke ribs that Benn suffered against McClellan
Felix bwalya against paul burke. It was a crazy fight in Africa for the commonwealth light welterweight title in 1997. felix was apparently knocked out many time during the fight but the local officials kept slow counting and ringing the bell too early, finally in round 12 they lifted felix into the air in celebration after saving him with another early bell (he naturally got the decision) but he was actually slipping into a coma at the time. he died days later. If it wasn’t so tragic im sure it would have been more well known. I remember watching the celebration on the news, poor felix was being thrown up and down but he had gone limp yet still his well wishers were moving his hands for him like he was waving and stuff. I could not believe what I was seeing! Terrible, terrible moment that has haunted be ever since.
