Amazing fighter. The king of the economical. Certainly in the top 20. Top 10 I'm not so sure about though.
I am probably the biggest Louis proponent on this site, but pound for pound I think there are ten better fighters across all the weight classes. I guess I don't rate heavyweights p4p. Among the heavyweights he is second to none, including Ali.
P4P, I don't think he's a lock for even top 20, though I'd have him there. As a Heavyweight, he's well above everyone but Ali, who I feel should be comfortably ahead.
Well said S. The deadliest puncher who EVER LIVED, not on your top tier of P4p fighters is absurd. The greatest finisher in history was my boyhood idol Joe Louis. Good show S.:good
It is hard to rate pound for pound. Particularly to compare weight jumping efforts. If you are the best ever in your division, then theoretically you are are going to be roughly one of the top 8 fighters. It is worth noting also that his dominance over his own heavyweight division was as dominant or more dominant than anyone else has ever dominated any other division. And this is the division with the most weight discrepancies. If you discount giving additional credence to weight jumping feats (which is relevant), i am interested to know who dominated their opposition better than Robinson did at Heavyweight. I dont think i can think of 10 who did so better. Fitzsimmons at middleweight, maybe. Robinson at Welterweight, possibly. Greb at Middle, i dont really think so but could be. Benny Leonard, could be a chance. But i think you run out of options pretty quickly. Who are the guys you think dominated a division las well as Louis did?
Absolutely. For sheer aesthetics, Louis threw some of the most beautiful, compact, leveraged combinations of any fighter in any division. However, I rank fighters primarily on accomplishments. Louis arguably accomplished more at the championship level than any other fighter who lived. He is one of a very small group of fighters to be discussed in that regards.
Thats a matter of opinion based on what you like but 1 thing is for sure, both look top 10 p4p material at their best IMO.
Arguably the most perfect fighting machine in history. 25 title defences, 22 knockouts, 18 top ten opponents defended against. Beat former champs in sharkey, carnera, bear, schmelling. Beat future champ walcot, twice. Ruled the division for 12 years. Hands down the greatest heavyweight ever, easily top ten p4p whatever your criteria. I have him number 3 but then again i'm a bit obsessed with heavyweights.
In a recent P4P event, many historians, fans, commentators, and trainers where there to share their opinion on who they thought the greatest fighter was P4P. Freddie Roach picked Joe Louis.
