In reverse... what if Floyd had done what Manny has?

I like both floyd and pac- one of them is obviously greatest of recent times. But your arguement for pac can be refuted by putting the same logic to someone like Tyson. Tyson- again- by all account was an amazingly entertaining fighter to watch. But he was smaller than most heavyweights and he SHOULD have had all sorts of disadvantages that are the same as pacs. But he went out there and went to work. However, guys like Lennox Lewis, and Evander Holyfield (headbutting comments aside) should make your realize it isnt about quickly finishing an opponent. if you can systematically break a man down you are the better fighter. Not, if i can knock someone out faster than you. That is an American and Mexican oversight now-a-days. Boxing is about winning every round. Floyd has won a WAYY higher percentage of rounds than any other elite level fighter (im pretty sure).

Floyd wouldnt get credit if the roles were reversed because the people writing, and the fans watching (for the most part) look at boxing with the "Mexican/ American" Outlook. Who can bang and be banged is the best boxer. Am I wrong?

 

people dislike him because he doesn't fight, that is at least part of the reason, also, the way in which pac fights and the challenges he accepts are part of the reason he is liked

Floyd and Pac beat all of them.

But Pac demolished them (except JMM) and that is where the big difference is.

Plus the fact that Pac is naturally bigger, it even magnified his accomplishments.


Lastly, if Floyd fought and beat up Cotto, Clottey and Magarito, he would be getting a good amount of credits too.

At worst, when a fighter takes a step up he faces older fighters. How he fares lets you know where he is at. I doubt any other fighter could win as many rounds as pac did vs the same opponents from Diaz on and do it with such ease and without showing even a fraction of being in any type of danger.

Andre Berto or Ortiz could not dominate 3 of those 6 fighters like Manny did and right there you can see the difference in skill level (miles and miles of separation). Even Sergio Martinez has not faced as good as Manny's 6 opponents and look where he is. What HOF fame fighters did he beat? The rest of the P4P list gets more credit than Manny does.

Besides Floyd there is nobody near the caliber of Pacquiao. There is zero reason not to at least try to fit Manny in as one of the greatest ever. Nothing shows otherwise or at least not yet.

Of course he does, it's a fantasy ****ing match-up. In reality Floyd knows Pac will **** him up like no one else has. I'm not saying Pac would win, but even in a loss he would batter Floyd's face :deal

 

This is silly.

Hatton had just looked like a million bucks against Malignaggi and was arguably "the man" at 140 before fighting Pacquiao.

Cotto was at least top five at Welterweight, and arguably the number 1 Welterweight when Pacquiao fought him. He was also coming off a win against another top Welterweight in Clottey(in a close fight).

Clottey was arguably a top five Welterweight coming off a close loss to Cotto when he fought Pacquiao.

Margarito and Mosley aren't the best opposition. However, they are both effectively stay-busy fights imo as Pacquiao waits for Floyd to get the "urge" to fight him. One of which is the fighter Floyd was once primarily accused of ducking(Margarito) and the other is Floyd's last fight(Mosley). If Pacquiao once again beats a common opponent in more impressive fashion than Floyd did, it continues to devalue Floyd's victories and put pressure on him to make the fight with Pacquiao.

In basically a span of two years, Pacquiao will have cleaned out most of the best Welterweights of the past five years or so not named Mayweather.

I've stated this before but it bears repeating.

Pacquaio has fought Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, and will fight Mosley(consecutive fights).
Mosley has fought Cotto, Margarito, Mayweather, and will fight Pacquiao.
Cotto has fought Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, and Pacquiao.
Margarito has fought Cotto, Clottey, Mosley, Williams, and Pacquiao.
Clottey has fought Cotto, Margarito, and Pacquiao.

Mayweather has fought Mosley.

One of these is not like the others. And to answer the original post, yes, Floyd would get credit if he had done what Manny has. And Manny does not get a pass as you say, a lot of fans want him to fight Mayweather or Martinez instead of Mosley. Because he is the best, Pacquiao is held to that higher standard you speak of with Floyd. The difference between the two is that Manny is still fighting and actually has made big fights happen recently, so even when he's fighting a "lackluster" opponent, fans are optimistic that he'll make a better fight next time around(I think most fans realize that he is hoping Floyd will fight him after the Mosley match and hence is taking an "easy" fight). Floyd inspires no such feeling of confidence with his history and current state of semi-retirement(again). One man is fighting, the other isn't even trying to keep pace yet doesn't mind talking baseless crap incessantly. Tells you all you need to know.

 

If you wonder why when Floyd fought ODLH he did not win so easily you can look to his level of opposition in 2003 2004 2005. He took these fights while Cotto and Clottey were undefeated and Margarito and Tszu (always dangerous) were making noise. Some how these fighters were more worthy.
