But Leonard was fighting the exact same Duran who faced Barkley, it was only 6months after, the difference was Leonard was an elite boxer and not a wild brawler. But yes yes ofcourse we know Duran only trained hard for wild brawlers and not elite boxers :patsch

I was being sarcastic.Though I suppose sarcasm isn't so easy to detect when having spent several years on a forum listening to the excuses of Duran's most ardent supporters/apologists.

How long had you been watching boxing when this 3rd fight between Duran and Leonard happened?

Duran was coming off his huge win over Barkley, but already being a 9 year veteran of observing fights, I knew Duran was incapable of cutting the ring off against a fighter with much faster footspeed.

Alot of people I knew back then were pumped about watching this 3rd fight, in fact there must have been at least 15 people over at my house that night to watch the PPV, and all of them were annoyed at me that I was saying Leonard would be too quick and too fast for Duran to be able to get off.

It was plain to see to any fightfan with an study, that Duran for years leading up to that 3rd Leonard fight could only look good vs fighters that were right in front of him and wanted to fight.

Having said that, a third fight between Duran and Leonard should have happened in the early to mid eighties.
Leonard as we know was'nt keen on giving rematches unless viewed the opponent as ripe for the picking.
......Leonard waited nearly a decade to give both Duran and Hearns rematches, and he offered Hagler a rematch years after Hagler had been retired.

At the time of this fight i had been a hardcore fan for about 11 years... Since 78 (i was 8) ive been a fan.. And within a couple years i knew more on the history and current fighters than most adult fans. I was one of those know it all kids on boxing by the time i was 10:lol: Betting adults with my piggy bank change and winning:D

I agree with the rest of your post:good Duran could still beat world class guys when he was old if they stood in front of him, but not against a guy who was moved alot.. About 4 or5 years later he pulled out another great performance against a still prime Vinnie Pazienza knocking him down in a fight that could have gone either way.. Next time they fpiught Vinnie new better, used his speed and didnt mix it up with Duran.. He won a clear decision.... I think Duran was robbed in the 1st Camacho fight though (late 90s).

Boringest "BIG" fights I have witnessed:

    "Ali-L. Stinks 2"

    "Hearns-Benitez"

    "M. Spinks-Qawi"

    "Leonard-Duran 3"

    "DLH-Trinidad"

    "Holy-Valuev"

    "W. Klit-Iggy"

    :deal:-((

Fair play but sarcasm is near impossible to get on a Duran thread unless it's very very obvious, such as, Duran created the big bang and the universe, this obviously can't be true because Duran was born after the big bang and creation of the universe, but obviously he could create another big bang had he trained for 12weeks first and wasn't weight drained

BTW Duran fans do claim the Barkley version was completely different to the 1 Leonard fought

I made so much money on that fight...Everybody I knew either picked Duran outright and put money on it with me or "just had that feeling" of an upset and did the same.

Duran needs to be at his best and most ruthless to beat any version of Leonard. When he's not hunting him down looking to kill him, he's getting outboxed. And I'd take any past prime version of Leonard against any faded Duran for this reason. Styles, styles, styles. Duran defied the styles match up in the first match primarily due to what astounding physical gifts he had to back up his brilliance. Take that speed and explosiveness away, as age does, and he just cant repeat that performance.

:lol::lol:Great story on you betting against adults.:D

Its a great pity that the judges robbed Duran of a deserved win vs Camacho in that first fight.

.......to this day I shake my head in bewilderment on how boxing could do that to a living legend like Duran.:-(
.....obviously the promotion had a stake on Camacho, and sitting at ringside that night watching Duran put a schooling on Camacho was Ray Leonard, who was the promotions plan to match up vs Camacho.:-(
