Interested in knowing. Do they do lower volume, higher intensity for conditioning and technique training? I would imagine since matches are shorter than the pros. Or is it pretty much the same as any other hardworking boxer?
Well there's some footage of the Ukranian olympic boxing program and they do a lot of controlled sparring
I've watched the Olympics for years and it's been a while since Olympic matches were 3x3. They've been 4x2 for a long time now.
They changed it to 3x3 for men a couple years ago (2009 I think). There hasn't been an olympics since they changed it but they've done it for all the world championships etc since then. Women still do 4x2.
Thanks for the update. They don't seem to broadcast much, if any, amateur boxing on TV these days so I don't follow it like I once did. I only see it during the Olympics and to tell the truth, I don't find it as exciting as it use to be because of too much referee intervention. I know they have the fighters best interest in mind, but, it is boxing and it is a contact sport.
Commonwealth games were 3x3, and had truly disgusting scoring happening as well. Can't wait to see this new scoring system they've got.
One thing i've noticed is elaborate cardio programs. Compared to us regular trainers. A lot of sprints/800m etc. A lot of controlled sparring/padwork and the best trainers intensely focused to iron out flaws. They have dedicated nutritionists, physios and massage therapists on hand. Probably psychologists aswell.
