FNF: Carlos Molina vs. Allen Conyers RBR (live streaming on ESPN3.com @ 8pm EST)

Interesting, Teddy gave it 10-10 - feeling as I did that Molina won the whole round and it was only a flash KD.

 

Round 5

Conyers jabs to the body and keeps lurching off balance while doing his acrobatics trying to roll with punches on the outside. Molina sticks his jab coming forward, and throws to the body when he gets inside (which is whenever he wants). Combos upstairs by Molina as he backs Conyers to the ropes. Conyers leans back, maybe trying to rope a dope a bit but Molina isn't playing the part of the dope. Molina backs out and lets Conyers come to him, and counters with jabs while turning him. Good body work mixed in by Molina. BIG right hand by Molina as Conyers is pulling back and doing his slow attempted slipping nonsense on the outside.

Round 6

Molina jabs, taunting Conyers with it by firing it and then holding it out half-extended to parry Conyers' own slow jab while stepping around him. Molina is just completely owning him in the jab battle. Conyers isn't landing any power punches either - so he's getting pretty clearly outboxed. Molina is really pesky with his jab, snapping it out and then holding it stiff and pushing the stick into Conyers's face. Before bouncing out of the pocket Molina is usually getting off some flurries to the body or a 1-2 down the pipe. Conyers's face is bloody around his left eye and nose. Molina is boxing his face off. Big right hand poked in through the gloves by Molina, with Conyers trying to slip punches against the ropes. Conyers thinks he's James Toney and he just isn't! atsch Molina keeps blasting him with rights.

If not for the flash KD (which was really just a brush of the glove on the mat) this is a clear shutout for Carlos more than halfway in. It doesn't seem like Conyers is primed to come on for a late stoppage, either.

 

Round 7

Conyers flicks out jabs and soft lazy rights. Molina tags him with jabs and slams a few right crosses in as he backs Conyers up. Conyers keeps shifting his shoulders, turning them in side to side and trying to defend with his very slow and predictable upper body movement but getting hit with damn near every jab and cross Molina throws. Conyers is backhanding his jab up into Molina's face but getting blocked.

Molina lands a left hook to the body and then BANGS HIM WITH A RIGHT CROSS TO THE CHIN THAT STAGGERS HIM HARD ACROSS THE RING, NEARLY INTO THE ROPES, AND TONY WEEKS STOPS IT!!!!!

There is no complaint whatsoever out of Conyers. He was not feeling it.

 

Not in the least. It just pissed him off.

If he had more power, he might have finished Conyers off when he rallied hard that very same round...Kirkland style. :yep

 

Huh. I guess they're not televising Tim Coleman after all. :conf

The next and last bout on the card is a heavyweight 6-rounder between 6-0 (3) Glendy Hernandez and 4-1-1 (2) Ken Frank.

 

Glendy Hernandez is called "the Guantanamo Giant".

Ken Frank should be called "the Alberta Blob". ukke

He makes Arreola look like Schwarzenegger.

 

Round 1

Hernandez leans down and hooks to the body. Hernandez takes his time, circling Frank and throwing his long arms at a casual clip. Frank flails his way in and pulls down on Hernandez's head from behind until the ref breaks them up. Hernandez stays on the outside. Frank's trunks almost fall down! :barf The referee helps him hike them back up over his love handles. Oh ****. Hernandez goes into a turtle shell as Frank waddles in and hugs him with his left arm, banging away with light body shots with his right. The ref breaks them up again. Hernandez wakes up a bit and throws a flurry of straight shots to back Frank into the ropes. Hernandez keeps trying to put long straight shot combos together but Frank is sticking his fat left arm out and using it to knock everything aside as he puts the blubbery treads of the Frank Tank in reverse.

Oh ****, Gamboa is in the crowd styling and profiling in a spiffy blue shirt (with a ridiculously high collar) and a black blazer.

Gamboa vs. Donaire? That would be awesome if they had a call-out and/or little scuffle.
