Do you really think the guy is dumb ? he may have a hearing problem in his left ear. They might not have removed pieces of Marquez, Barerra and Morales's gloves from it yet. It is amazing he is alive after the wars with those sick *******s.

Lets face it being dumb and making money arent mutually exclusive. Lots of entertainers are dumb and still make a lot of money. They dont usually retain all their money.

He's as smart as any poor, undernourshed, small town boy with some high school education and boxing since his early teens can be.

Like how an average blue collar guy with humble origins will sound like.
And then force him to learn and talk in a foreign language.

Not a rocket scientist, but not a moron either.

I think he's smart enough to realize that being polite and bland gets you fewer enemies and more money -- from a political PR perspective -- than being overly verbose. Talking too much and trying to discuss complicated ideas in a second language is a minefield; you can never be sure when you're going to say something that will be taken the wrong way, maybe disastrously.

I was wondering about this when people were discussing 'personality' in another thread. It's clear that Pac's got plenty; his smiling interactions with people; his clowning around with Roach; the way he walks to the ring; the way he fights all show it in abundance.

But, that said, he's an incredibly boring mother****er in english interviews. His answers are so bland and non-commital that he may as well not bother. I was curious as to whether he is more forthcoming and open in Tagalog, or whether he speaks like that in his first language, too.

He struggles with the english language and he talks slowly, because mostly of how "educated" Filipinos perceive other Filipinos who are not as fluent in engish as they are.

You make one wrong grammatical error, intonation, figure of speech, etc. while speaking in english here in the Philippines, and you will be ridiculed and thought of as stupid.

    No kidding.

    He's trying his best.

    It's his 3rd language, FFS.

His first language is Visayan (I can barely understand that regional language. 2nd most used local regional language)
And then Tagalog, (official language in the Philippines)
    And then English.

No; that's not the whole picture. You get the feeling he could say a multitude of things if he so chose; he just chooses not to. That's why his interviews are always a bit disappointing.

On the other hand, he fights like lightning with a tornado up its ass, so all this is secondary, really.

Yeap. The obvious thing is that his life is very fast paced, he's in a tv show, he's a congressman, a boxer, a singer, and who knows what else. You can't be a dumb**** and have your life wound up with all these things.

That's very interesting. So it's partly as much to do with Philippine perception as outside-world perception. Cheers, bula.

If you're just an entertainer, or just a celebrity, that's one thing. If you're a self-made multimillionaire, politician and elite in any profession who speaks three or four languages, even at most basic, I don't think you're likely a dumb person. I'm not saying I think he's Johnny Genius or anything like that, but the likelihood that he's "dumb"...I don't think he's dumb.

Obviously its the language barrier, the guy is not fluent in english. Have u ever tried speaking another language? You'll come off like a moron as well.

I just thought he couldn't speak English well. I don't think he is dumb. When I hear him speak in his own language he sounds more fluent. I also thinks he try's to play dumb when asked questions he doesn't want to respond to.
