pretty big question and tough to nail without going through every fighter individually. based on styles, walcott fares well imo in any era. he wins most, loses some and in the is right up in the mix i always see a fit and focused, pre zaire ali beating him 2/3 times. out of that list i'd favour walcott over norton (the best chance of this group, maybe 40-60 to walcott), quarry, lyle, chuvalo, mathis, foster, shavers, bugner, wepner and ellis (never really got ellis personally) i'd put even money vs patterson (maybe, SLIGHTLY favouring patterson) and foreman i'd favour frazier as well

He certainly does. Patterson had very good power and speed to carry with it. Walcott was very slick and wouldn't get hit with those crazy punches that patterson use to throw but i think walcott would get the job done

If Jersey Joe fought the best verssions of the 70's guys,he'd lose to Ali,Frazier,Foreman and Holmes. He'd beat the rest,imo. Young and Norton would give him close ones,though.
I think he could beat Foreman and Ali on the right night. Frazier and Patterson would be a bad fit for him though. I'd expect both to knock him out.
Patterson would not knock Walcott out. I'd favor Walcott to outpoint Patterson in a close one. Walcott was a big puncher too, don't forget.
in my opinion hw would be competitive against all them. i pick ali to beat him by late tko or ud, joe frazier by ko in5-6 rounds. jersey would outbox foreman and probably he would win on the cards but george would catch him in some point then it is over. prime norton would beat him 1 fight for sure. ron lyle, jerry quarry,jimmy young would give him a battle. walcott was by far better than shavers but earnie could catch him and he would need only a clean shot. walcot did not have the best chin.
He was too knowledgeable vs Foreman and knew those wide swings and lack of stamina would fall into his trap...Walcott was better than Young and hit harder...Jimmy was a great defensive guy though, Just I think JJW could do it all when focused..His problem was he knew he could punch with the best and had one punch pin point power and accuracy. I think Walcott give Frazier fits but may be in trouble with Joe's pressure but JJW had pinpoint power and could put Frazier down or hurt him...tough pick here Ali would have all kinds of trouble with Walcotts feet, hands and left hook..I don't see Ali hurting Joe and I think Walcott could figure him out could be a close decision and in a series there could be many
The thing is that Walcott's style is not going to confuse guys like Frazier and Patterson. The jukes, slips and feints aren't any sort of real antidote for the kind of fast two handed pressure and ring cutting they bring. I'm not saying Walcott couldn't beat them, but i'd be pretty surprised if he did.
1_foreman was not in his prime mentally when he faced jimmy young 2_jimmy young was more elusive and durable than walcott was ever. young weighed 213 pounds and walcott 189. 3_the best shot from walcott could not ko george foreman, who had a very solid chin, only ron lyle(by far bigger,stronger,heavier and harder puncher than walcott). dropped foreman early, and he could not ko foreman . 4_ walcott could not run from foreman during all the fight because ali could not do it, and walcott did not have exactly the chin of ali. my opinion..
