Pep was said to be much better pre-plane crash than post plane crash. I imagine it's like watching Tyson post prison or Ali post exile and going "This is the guy?" The people there attest to this.

Anyway, didn't Pep beat a greater variety of fighters and styles than Saddler anyway. Even if Saddler did get the past of a past prime Pep (Which, in his prime, he probably wouldn't have. Who knows).

Saddler did not knockout Pep 3 times. He twice beat Pep on corner retirements, in which Pep experienced horrific injuries to his eye and shoulder due to illegal Sandy Saddler tactis(which arguably should have got him DQed). Willie Pep was well ahead on the scorecards in both those fights.

Willie Pep was past his prime when all 4 Saddler fights took place. He suffered permanent physical damage in the plane crash. He was still an amazing fighter when he fought Saddler, but nowhere near at his peak physically. Pep in his prime would beat Saddler much like he did in the 2nd fight, except it would be wider on the scorecards, closer to a shut out. That's how good Willie was.

Sandy Saddler was a physical freak. A long armed, strong, immensely tough wrecking machine. A great fighter. However, he was no on Willie Pep's level.

    Willie was the greatest

I think that Pep is just a little to fragile all round to beat Saddler under that ruleset.

    Most would be, I think.

I agree that Pep was the greatest. But this is a different question.

You have to work on that McLovin. They need to be flip flopped. Hopefully some day you'll realize it.

Except he managed to beat him once while past his prime, and was easily beating him in 2 of the other fights before Saddler became dirty and hurt him illegally.
