I got no problem with that, really. I think it's as close as can be. The reason for having them that way is what happened between the men themselves when they met.

Yeah, and that's why he's to fragile all round, that's exactly what I meant.

most ringside reporters felt it was more to do with Saddlers body punches taking there effect on Pep and that he bailed.

Alright, so even if Saddler beats Pep most of the time even in his prime. What about all the other matchups? That still doesn't make Saddler's style conducively more versatile against a better variety of fighters. Didn't Saddler drop the ball more often to lesser fighters? This I think would be the main argument for why Pep should be ahead.

Yeah I'll also go for Pep as #1. Hard not to with that winning streak. I'd also feel comfortable with Armstrong there as well, he was a ****ing beast at that weight I bet.

One name I have not seen yet is Young Griffo.

You have to suspect that he could have given some of the guys on these lists fits.

Also left out despite great physical talent and a solid resume: McGovern.

Agreed, I was actually more surprised Armstrong wasn't #1 for more people. Do people perceive him superior as a lightweight or something? Or are his achievements what make people rank him, and that maybe his style is not aesthetically pleasing enough for him to be the best H2H featherweight? Probably a primal argument, but I don't get it. You could flip Pep & Armstrong 1-2 for me. I'd probably give Pep the edge because of testimonial and his dominance/streak at FW in his prime.

McGovern might well be the most destructive puncher that weight class ever saw.

Dearth of footage, and better straps at higher weights.

Nah, but he had the kind of Tysonesque ability to flatten anything in front of him in the early rounds that translates well to a lot of matchups.

I think Janitor is right and McGovern is a reasonable bet to beat both my #1 and my #2, it's not impossible, but I also should say that there isn't enough footage for me to make a proper dig at comparing him, so I left him off.

McGovern did not just have power.

He was demolishing guys that nobody had any business demolishing.

He wasn't just destroying the top contenders, but he was making quick work of the ones who you would assume to survive into the later rounds, even when they outweighed him.
