Haye and Klit cancel next weeks press confrences?

    Is the £50 million Haye-Klitschko heavyweight fight off ? Not likely. All probable signs are that the much-awaited heavyweight unification fight between David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko has not suffered a lethal blow, but a Saturday afternoon news bulletin from Sky Box Office’s publicity arm indicates that there is still much wrangling behind the scenes between the respective management teams of the tw0 fighters.
    The contest is still scheduled for the Imtech Arena, Hamburg, on July 2.
    Sky Box Office, Haye’s quasi-promoters for this event as it is they who now notify the British media of official press opportunities with the British fighter, issued a brief statement yesterday, indicating that there “were issues still to be resolved”. This is understood to be related more to the sequence of news and press briefings rather than the contest itself, an on-off, two year affair.
    There were plans for news conferences with both protagonists in Hamburg next Tuesday and in London on Wednesday.
    Given the nature of the protracted negotiations, and indeed open dislike for one another, it does not come as a shock. There was no statement from Hayemaker on Saturday afternoon. Nor indeed from the Klitschko’s K2 Promotions. Yet both men are perfectionists and although the respective management teams have agreed a 50/50 revenue split, there will be issues over fine details in the build up to the contest.
    Haye, if he is to create a profound heavyweight legacy, cannot afford to allow the contest to collapse once more, as he is adamant he will be out of the sport by the end of October. Period.
