Could HBO learn from the UFC on how to promote boxing?

All the real dudes at my work are boxing fans. There are some suburban kids that are young as hell that are into the rolling around gay ****, but the real dudes aren't tryin to see that bull****.

 

I think UFC has found its niche market and boxing has survived just fine. The interesting thing will be in 10 years when the youngsters who are exposed to UFC are old enough to have their own households and be premium cable subscribers.

Will HBO cater to that set at the expense of boxing? For that matter, will entertainment even be distributed like it is today?

I don't know, and won't pretend to answer. Let the guys with faux hawks and affliction shirts have their fun. If anything ,the presence of the UFC has led to more exciting matchups in boxing and promotional cooperation (Super Six, Berto vs. Ortiz, Bantanweight tourney, etc.) In a roundabout way, I think UFC helps boxing.

The interesting thing will be when Americans start to lose their grip on MMA and the Eastern Euriopeans start to dominate it...will UFC still be growing or will it be in decline?...

ufc benefits from being fresh, atypical, marketed to and by younger generation of individuals through all the prevalent modern means, where boxing is a classic sport with a tradition of exclusivity. although boxing is really not that far behind.

The rolling on the ground stuff has been controlled nowadays, somewhat.

After a while of little action on the ground, they stand them up. Think of it as a horizontal clinch-in fighting.

A decade or so ago, there would be looong stretches of nothing but "boring" chess match type positioning and technical ground stuff.

There's a bit longer punching and kicking stretches nowadays.

Well UFC has been able to successful market Brazilians since its beginning so I think it'll be fine if they get the odd eastern european champion. And also since when the Eastern Europeans start to dominate boxing? I must have missed that.

Maybe not "dominate" but thats a good number of world "champions" (including interims)

 

Since when was Germany, Poland, Romania and Solvenia in Eastern Europe? That's Central Europe. Kazakhiztan isn't even in Europe!!! So actually there's 5 Eastern European Champions. Learn Geography for **** sake.

Kazhkastahn is actually considered part of Eastern Europe (much like Turkey) and Asia ans is whats called a "transcontinental country"
Romania is part of what is considered "Southeastern Europe". Germany, until the fall of the wall, saw Berlin seen as the line between East and West ;-)
