I suggest this poster take a look at Ali vs Liston the second fight and Ali's KO of Liston with his famous anchor punch that shot was so fast you could barely see it.
Perfect example was in the Thomas Tate fight. He backed up with one hand on the ropes and waited until Thomas was in too close to back up, then fired off the LH to KHTFO at 4:10. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GvJjMawMtA[/ame]
Calzaghe could throw faster combos but RJ had the faster punching speed. It is impossible to say who had the fastest hands because of the different arm lengths. Short punches look fast because of the effect of scale, so fighers like Tyson look really fast [especially given he did not extend his arms very far] Kevin Johnson looks to have exceptional handspeed given that he has an 84" reach [from memory] and his punches look really fast.
There are a few fighters whose handspeed was about equal. One things for sure though, Roy's speed and athleticism was out of this ****ing world. And it goes without saying that the GOAT Sugar Ray's handspeed was lightning fast as well. Definitely equal to Roy's. SRR had it all.
I wouldn't say the fastest hands in history but very fast, Definetly in the top 10 percent of any weight. I saw the punch.
I agree that PBF at 130 should be in the conversation as well. SRR SRL meldrick and RJJ had that kind of insane speed. They could sit back watch for the guy to prepare to punch, and in the last second beat them to the punch with blinding speed... RJJ and PBF had that true one shot blinding speed...SRR SRL and Meldrick blistering combo speed and maybe pac as well...
