Is it possible that Nick Diaz could psychologically & tactically defeat GSP?

We all know that GSP is stronger, a better wrestler, and has a better all-round game than Nick Diaz.

But it also looks like we are all aware of GSP's weaknesses. He has submitted to strikes, he has tapped out the second he got caught in an armbar, he doesn't seem to react well to getting hit, cut or marked up, and he seems to want to win safely at all times, taking no risks.


Could Nick Diaz be the man to drag GSP into the kind of war, on the feet and on the ground, that would put Georges in the most uncomfortable fight possible for him? :bbb

Or would Diaz bring out the beast in GSP again??? :fire

 

I think it would look a lot like the Alves fight.

 

Nick is a hell of a lot better on the ground than Alves is.

 

Noone at WW is going to be genuinely competitive with GSP, the only way he's going to get challenged is by moving up. The guy hasn't even looked remotely in danger in years.

At WW the fight that would intrigue me the most is Martin Kampmann, just because I think he has the right style to give GSP a tough night. Accurate punching, good takedown defence, decent off his back.

 

He is, but I just don't ever worry about GSP getting submitted from the bottom really.

I don't think Diaz would beat the likes of Fitch and Koscheck either.

 

I'm not saying Diaz is the next best welterweight in the world after GSP, I just think his relentless aggression even off his back would see GSP sustain some damage at some point, and then you have a real fight on your hands because at the first sign of any weakness in GSP, Diaz will explode. Psychologically, I think Diaz would really test GSP. Diaz would bust a gut trying to test the great man, in a way that Shields, Koscheck et al have failed to do.

 

I think Shields would leave it all in the Octagon, don't get me wrong. I don't think his boxing is tidy enough and I don't think he hits hard enough to really panic GSP though. If it was someone like Ellenberger, then there's always the chance of a flash KO, don't really see Diaz doing that and I certainly don't see him wearing GSP down or getting a decision.

Kampmann, Ellenberger and Condit have the best chance to beat GSP imo, but I wouldn't say any of their chances are much above 20% if that.

 

Diaz's boxing is excellent. He may not have the all-round striking game of some of the guys you mentioned, but on the evidence of last night Nick Diaz has more than enough boxing ability to cause GSP serious problems.

 

I think it's a bit wild for GSP personally.

 

standing gsp would be knocked out in thefirst few rouds, gsp needs to go back to freddie roach and pay him more than he did before

 

If Nick performed like he did against Daley. There could be a slight chance of him winning. As long as he doesnt get into the hype of the fight and focus more on the mental side of the fight. Personally I think diaz has all the tools to defeat Gsp, but he needs to come in 100% ready. Cause I think Shields broke mentally before he even got in the cage. Cause there was certain times in the fight he looked like an amateur.

 

anyone who cares to read my history knows how highly i rate nick diaz. i think hes a ****ing killer and arguably the second best welterweight in the world IMO. but i give him less than a one in a hundred chance against gsp. GSP is just alll wrong for nick.

 

I think Nick Diaz is the only guy left at WW who has a chance at beating GSP, watching the Shields fight convinced me of that. Jake was able to bust him up a little bit on the feet and Nick would be able to do much more and unlike the good strikers GSP has faced before Nick has an excellent ground game.

If they aren't going to make the Silva fight then this is the only fight that makes sense, I mean who else is there that has a realistic chance at beating GSP?

 

My feeling exactly. If GSP-Silva isn't going to happen, then Diaz is the only person I'd be interested in seeing GSP fight. He has already beaten all the top welters in the UFC, and Diaz is easily the best ww in Strikeforce.

 

I mean who else are they gonna give the shot too, Condit? Ellenberger? There just isn't anyone else.
