Outside of boxing gyms he isn't well known!

It's not like boxing gets that much press anymore, and due to the time fights occur its not like much of the population can see many of his fights.

Mayweather is fairly well known over here now (especially as he came here when he fought Hatton)

I know his fight with Hatton broke PPV records in the UK.

But even he isnt very well known.

Same with David Haye my friend saw him at Wimbledon about 2 years ago and he couldn't get into a restuarant (as they were all booked) and he wasnt being mobbed or anything.

Boxing just isnt a big main stream sport in the UK anymore.

Right, so people in a Tesco warehouse are an accurate sample of the UK population?

If you walked through Leicester and took a random sample, most people wouldn't know. In fact, if you walked through Leicester, Gary feckin' Lineker would out-rank Pac by about 5-to-1.

Just keeping it real. It depresses me too.

No they are not, ofcourse some people know who he is but he gets NO press/ coverage in the UK.

I would bet Gary Linekar would be more like 100 - 1 (but he was born there though)

We barely support our own fighters I wonder how many people even know Carl Froch is out side of Nottingham?!

We are too interested in Football, Rugby and even cricket!

I work in building and find he is known to a degree with alot of working class blokes who mostly have a passing interest in boxing, but it doesn't stretch much past he fought Hatton and they want him to fight Mayweather, you won't get more than blank stares if you talk about the Morales or Marquez fights for example. Still it's better than most non-British boxers.

Thank You! Someone with some sense.

No one is known like Tyson in the UK. Them days are over.......Pacmania just hasnt reached the UK and I dont think it will or can. It doesnt take away from him being a great fighter or being hugely popular, damn you lot can get so emotional!

Now Ricky Hatton fans they loved him like no other LOL.......Greatness!

Wow the UK is wack:-( I thought boxing was big over there. I remember reading a Boxing magazine they used to publish back in the 90s.. Also the way they adored Ali,Duran and even saw something about them welcoming Lupe Pintor in Johhny Owens hometwn... Always figured they were boxing fanatics... Especially the way they come over here for Hatton fights.. Or there wierd worship of Frank Bruno.. Rioting after Hagler beat Minter:think What about there delusional rankings of other brits? Just about every brit ive ever met has some knowledge of boxing, How come there are more Brit posters here than Americans.. Yet US has 5x the population?

Seems hard to believe boxing is as unpopular as you guys say it is.

Ill put it this way of the thousands of people ive known in my life in ireland wether they be friends, family, work mates, school mates, drunken conversations with strangers, casual chats with people in shops or wherever etc at least 50 percent of people(i include women and non sports fans)know who pacquiao and mayweather are! Even if they dont know anything about them other than the fact they are boxers

so it's the same all over the world then?

90 percent or more of boxing related stories/coverage are focused on the home fighters.
