Would Mike Tyson vs. Joe Louis be a let down?

I'm sure he didn't like being crowded but the majority of men who tried to crowd him caught a vicious beating for their efforts. Being aggressive and giving opportunities for Louis's pin-point accurate counters wasn't exactly the way to beat the man. Not to mention that Tyson isn't much of an inside fighter himself, this would be fought at mid-range with both men exchanging power shots, while at the same time wary of each others' power.

 

Exactly Mike's best at mid range where he can get some space to fire off his combinations.

 

If Tyson blows him out fast, which he is capable of, then yes it would be

 

People keep repeating this, but he throws quick fire hooks on the inside, throws brutal uppercuts on the inside, arguably the best uppercut of all time. He doesn't work in the clinches but at close range Tyson is lethal. Tyson's mid range because of his short arms is also pretty much close quarters for his opponent

The closest we've seen Louis to fighting a Tyson would be Marciano and Goddoy and he had nightmares against both

 

Tyson would win by early K.O. It's one of the atg h2h fights that i would be most confident picking. Louis did not like to be crowded and had slow footwork. Tyson would get in and find angles before Louis had even set himself properly. Tyson's chin is also far more proven.

I go with Joe ,but surprise myself by giving Tyson a very live chance of a stoppage win, he had a better chin, fast hands ,and hit with power, he has a real shot at stopping the Bomber early imo.
Nevertheless, Louis for me , if he starts to establish his jab ,tko around 9th rd,both men may be down early ,especially Louis.

 

You forgot Tyson's better defense, footwork, head movement, jab

 

I'm not a fan of the peek a boo defence, and Tyson stood square on ,which I don't like either ,but he definitely had better head movement and an underated jab.:good

 

It would be a good fight.
Tyson has a good style to give Louis problems early on, but Louis would hang in there and break Tyson down. Once Tyson starts shipping some of that returning fire he'd be easy meat for Louis.

 

He hardly "crowded" opponents like Godoy or Marciano did though. Godoy was a huggy bear and a mauler and fought Louis with the kind of mentality that Bonecrusher Smith did against Tyson. It's incredibly difficult to finish off an opponent that just clinches you every time you try to hit him.

Godoy is a pretty poor equivalent to Tyson. More of an inside spoiler and crowder than someone like tyson trying to nut off volleys at mid range. Tyson would get countered by Louis a lot. Louis would get banged up by Tyson for sure. Who would last? I have no clue. I'd favor Joe on consistency against best-faced, better boxing lexicon, and equal dynamite, but you can't write out Mike with his head screwed on right.

 

With these two bone crunching punchers and great combinations punchers and with both fighters I think this could of been the best fight ever.

Agree w/ peekaboo defense. Even moreso in this particular matchup. You'd have a huge advantage in corners anyway w/ Blackburn. And he'd be probing holes for 3 or 4 months against that peekaboo in pre-fight preparations with a master student who listened and followed instructions.

 

Louis ko mid rounds. A hell of a war. Uppercuts and short rights do the damage.
