Is it possible that Nick Diaz could psychologically & tactically defeat GSP?

Diaz is getting over hyped after his win over Daley. GSP mauls him on the ground.

It would look like the Nate v MacDonald fight tbh.

If Diaz can force the fight to stay on its feet I have no doubts he would win. Diaz is just so confident, applys so much pressure and will always hit you no matter who you are. Shields did some half assed showboating, landed a few jabs and bust up GSP and GSP was basically telling his corner he didnt wanna go on anymore. Nick Diaz could and would break GSP's spirt and knock him out. Only problem is there is such a difference in the wrestling ability of the 2 men and GSP could put Diaz on his back at will. Diaz has a world class ground game but problem is so does GSP. Still this is the the next logical fight IMO.

Nate is just a crappy version of Nick.

Nick would have a bit of a chance against GSP. He's got a great chin, good/effective boxing, a good ground game, He is very agressive and he has the cardio to keep it up all night.

if you seen the nick diaz sparring videos then i dont think you would want to see diaz stand up with gsp even if gsp isnt a world class striker

This would be a good fight to make. I don't see GSP challenging Silva and Nick deserves a shot. I don't think he'll win, but it'll be fun to watch, especially the pre-fight hype.

Although Dana might want to put Diaz up against another welterweight first. Same way he did with Shields. It's not necessary, but you could argue Diaz needs to prove himself against at least on top UFC welterweight before he gets a shot.

Bro you cant compare a guy like GSP who only stands with fighters he knows arent a danger to a guy like Omar Henry who is an undefeated prospect in boxing and very decorated amateur fighter. I know what Diaz has done IN MMA he has went out there and outstruck many fine strikers in MMA like KJ, Cyborg, Zaromskis, Lawler, Daley the list goes on. GSP will land some presice punches on Diaz's face but it wont stop Diaz from applying pressure and landing shots which will probably bust GSP up and mentally break him down.

GSP would have absolutely no difficultly taking Diaz down and controlling him. The stand up wouldn't even be an issue. I think that GSP was only concerned with taking Shields down because of Shields ability to catch people in that guillotine.

I can't believe how many people are using that video as evidence of Diaz' striking game. That is a sparring video, with an excellent boxer with great speed, not a competition fight.

That being said, GSP would give Diaz a lot of trouble. Nick has never faced someone with standup as good and varied as GSP so he would have to get GSP to the ground to have a chance at a win, which is not so easy as we have seen. Unlikely Diaz pulls this off.

To add, the psychological effect is often over stated. These fighters mostly(barring Mayhem) respect eachother at the end of the day. I do not know of an example in MMA where a fight has been changed through ****-talking beforehand. Even in the most famous example in boxing(Rumble in the Jungle), Foreman was more effected by not being able to adapt the the environment than anything Ali said.

True, but in terms of game plan I dont see it being much different between Nick and GSP is what I meant

They only gave Shields that fight because of timing - if Georges wasn't locked into The Ultimate Fighter then he would have got an automatic shot.

I think St. Pierre is open to fighting Silva, he just wants to do it at a catchweight rather than move up.

THe question is, what else would he be concerned about against Nick. It seems GSP doesn't believe in himself enough to realize when he still has the advantage to take advantages of openings.

GSP's achilles heel, imo, has proved to be his mental strength at times. He appears to be too afraid to loose and avoids taking anything that would be considered a risk, this could prove to be costly against a guy like Diaz. The longer the fight wears on the more time Diaz has to push the pace and land something. If he gets GSP in trouble, he will have no trouble finishing him, thats for sure.
