What is the point of having him on just for a minute or so to run through the rules and then for a similar length of time just to list some of the great fighters who fought at last night's venue. And I'm sure unlike Johnny Nelson he would not have been describing Spada as the the sixth best middleweight in the world. It's a huge waste of a very knowledgeable, rational boxing journo/pundit.
It's funny, I have no idea who Bob Mee is, apart from the guy who literally speaks for about 20 seconds every Saturday Fight Night. I'm sure he doesn't give a ****, he's getting paid either way - but what a waste of money at the moment.
People have said there trying to use him as Sky version of Ledermen and i thought that but they don't talk to him during 1min between rounds. It's just stupid and must make him feel like a ***** even though he's getting paid Mee's not that type of guy he clearly loves the sport and deserves a bit more then 30 seconds on rules.
Johnny nelson was bloody terrible last night. I know theyre trying to hype Barker but the way Johnny was talking youd think youd just seen the white Ray Robinson. Nelsons been getting worse and worse recently. Too much time spent with Smith is making him into a creepy cheerleader type. I dont care if its Bob Mee, Jamie Moore. mcguigan or whoever but someone should be on instead of him
They need to use him as a 3rd commentator, give him the scorecard to do every few rounds, anything really. Because he might as well not be there with what he's doing at the moment.
He is terrible everytime he opens his gob. I had to laugh at the OTT hype they lavished on Ashley Sexton. Just went overboard with the ahmed KO, Ahmed is light at the weight and very chinny. Then when Watt started commenting, he referred to the Sexton-Bayaar draw a lucky or fortunate, when in fact, it was a blatant robbery...and so the commentary continued, trying to justify the stupid hype....
I'd like Mee on because if he was anything like he was on Eurosport he'd at least put Spada's WBC rating into perspective. Nelson acts as if he's just started following boxing and believes everything he reads. Hearn and Barker also talked Spada up afterwards which you might expect but I just wish someone amongst the many would talk in an open and honest way.
I think they should get him to rate the ring card girls. "Over to Bob" "Ooh, she's probably a 5 pinter Jim. Bodywork is fine but the nose of Ricky Hatton. Still would though" Just to spice things up. Also, why do you never get to see ringcard girls on the TV?
The problem they have is, they take ad breaks inbetween rounds. That would've been the ideal time to get his input as you say, Mand. They definitely need to figure out a way to give him some more air time. Maybe they should get him to be the one giving the unofficial scorecard and not the co-commentator? As we've seen over the years asking someone to commentate as well as score a fight is not easy. They probabily tend to get a different impression when they're describing the action and trying to get it across to the views, perhaps asking them to keep a scorecard aswell is not fair.
