I'm sure someone mentioned recently that at one stage Elley was in The Ring Magazine top handful P4P punchers at the time.

That show boxing tent brings back memories. I was about 11 yrs old, at the Geelong show. I snuck away from my mother to find out where the 'boom bah boom bah boom bah boom' drum sound was coming from. Can't remember the name of the fella whose tent it was, but they had two side acts on before the boxing.
Vanessa the Undresser, and a fella 'The Human Dart Board' who pierced his cheeks, tongue, chest etc.
I was shaking when I went up to buy a ticket.
I thought they wouldn't sell me one, but they did.
Vanessa did the dance of the seven veils. I was just about running on the spot watching for her to take it all off.
When she pulled her bra off, she was wearing pasties, and quickly disappeared behind a curtain. Everyone was clapping and cheering, but I just felt, 'Whaaaaat? That's it???' The dart board fella freaked me out, then I was told I had to go when the boxing was about to begin.
Being a good young fella, I did as I was asked, still shaking with the excitement of what I'd done.
Thanks to you fellas for posting these pics. It's a great history trip :thumbsup.

    1949, or 1950??

Nat Fleischer had rated him as the hardest puncher internationally.
