That's because it didn't. Pac Clottey initial attendance was a gimmicked number. Paid was 34,000.

No it didn't. Both earnt about the same. The combined revnue for the two fighst was $12million. Marg did slightly more because they dropped some of the cheaper seats.

gate is hard to gauge. a big fight like floyd dlh, they must've given a **** load of tickets way for free. Same again for 55,000 in Canada. Sometimes they'll give away tickets to fill the house, sometimes it'll sell out easy. Ticket pricing can change massively.

They gave very few tickets away - remember it was a three day sell out and that was with them holding back tickets to ensure they had some to sell on the general market as opposed to fight club/newsletter folks. Floyd-De La Hoya like most big vegas fights would have been supported by casino buys.

The two bouts in Texas likely generated a combined paid gate of approximately $13 million, given the ticket pricing structure for Pacquiao vs. Margarito. That’s only about $2 million more than the paid gate of $11.03 million for the Mayweather-Mosley fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Texas has not yet released the official gate report from the event.

ill look more into this tomo, its 12 o clock here and im working in the morn, its on wiki as 17 m gate and yes i know wiki is bs most of the time

    later

Look at the celebs that are there, even Cain, Jones, Edgar etc were all sitting in $800 seats. Dana is on his blog giving away what must be 100 tickets. Alot of businessmen get freebies.

It's hard to gauge. Usually a sellout means the tickets they have allocated. It was either Floyd Hatton or Floyd DLH that something ridiculous like 1000 or 2000 tickets were given to businessmen, celebs etc

I thought you were referring to 'papering' where promoters give out large number of tickets to hide the fact that an event has sold out. That certainly didn't happen at UFC 129 and probably doesn't at most big boxing events.

Businessmen get free tickets but usually its a case that they're only 'free' to them and their business has actually paid for the tickets - often by sponsor the event. Celebrities are different but that's only going to be a fraction of the overall attendance. And of course in vegas and the old atlantic city events casino buys are huge part of the equation - so the promotion may legit sell all its tickets but the casinos are giving them away to valued customers.

For UFC 129 we know that such was demand they actually reconfigured teh stadium twice to get more people in. That the event was sold out (as in you couldn't buy any more tickets) after the first day of general sale. Now yes the promotion had tickets to give to fighters/celebs and Dana gave 300 on his twitter - the former were certainly held back but the latter may simply have been ones that came available as they had the final configuration for the stadium in place. Usually with UFCs they will recieve some tickets in the final release in low visibility areas.
