No he wouldn't. Diaz actually represents a significant threat. Diaz has a very good bear, tons of length and great BJJ. Myself personally at 170 this is the only fight that matters. What with Diaz's mental toughness this would be a stylistic nightmare for GSP. There's no way he's going to be able to pot shot his way to these ridiculous wins without engaging with Diaz.

 

Shields had NOTHING to offer GSP. I said this before the fight and il continue to repeat it. Shields is an unexciting one trick pony. There's no way he was going to get GSP to the mat so his game plan was to stand and trade when he has one of the worst hands in this sport?

 

GSP used to be great to watch. Remember what he did to Hughes in their second bout? Or when he subbed Frank Trigg? He was hungry then. He's not hungry any more. Economically he's comfortable and doesn't need this sport any more. And secondly he's a Gregg Jackson fighter. Greg should be banned from this sport. He's ruining it with his ridiculous safety first crap. I mean MMA fights won off a jab? That's ridiculous. This is MMA not boxing.

Scru repeated Dana White's misguided Greg Jackson bashing like the good Zuffa zombie he is. From Jackson's rebutal to White:

“In the UFC alone, so far this year (2010) there have been 22 events, and our team has been honored with 12 bonuses. That means for one out of every two UFCs you watch, our team is taking home either Knockout, Submission, or Fight of the Night honors.”


And his fighters include Carwin, Jones, Guida, Condit, Brian Stann, Akiyama, Garcia, Sanchez, Cerrone, Schaub. Hardly a list of one-dimensiona, safety first wrestlers

 

Not interested in any of that waffle. So a couple of his fighters won some bonus's big deal Greg Jackson is the sole reason for GSP's current style. This time i whole heartedly agree with Dana.

 

Except that Jackson is not really his primary trainer and strangely Torres is developing the same style after training in Quebec. And if you listen to what Jackson says in the corner during St. Pierre's fights its usually urging him to be more aggressive - the Hardy fight is a great example of this.

 

You know what? I agree with you. Heres a guy who thinks hes too damn smart. Ohhh I'll be the first real "coach" in MMA devising strategies like they do in Football and Basketball etc.

Look at me playing the odds and percentages. If GSP jabs, he would win YES!!! Im great but I'll play it humble.

Ive seen all GSPs fights, he used to wreck opponents into submission, remember when he bloodied Sherk to a pulp. This GSP would think thats too violent now.

Really? You don't want to give Shields any credit at all for staying in with the world's best WW and being able to do some damage near the end? Who has really performed better against GSP in his last 4?

 

Challenge after challenge is talked about in the same way and challenge after challenge are dominated via potshotting and grappling control.

Koscheck took him down and the way he started throwing the uppercut to capitalise on St. Pierre's high boxing guard showed more intelligent striking than Shields. Hardy impressed by way of his flexibility and ability to get out of near submissions.

To me Shields was another Thiago Alves - completely outclassed in the first half of their fight with GSP but flattered by a second half where the fight tightened up due to an injury to the champion. The guy went into survival mode from the first round and rarely came out of it even after the eye poke. I scored it another 50-45 (as I think did most people) which is a par score for a GSP title defense.
