I see nothing but a GBP-TR war here, let's see how arum will react. I see arum saying, "go on oscar, let him fight canelo".
I don't think it matters what weight Arum offers the fight at. As long as Golden Boy match Top Rank's offer in terms of money then Marquez has to fight for Golden Boy. I think Golden Boy need to seriously consider what they are doing and not just throw money at Marquez because they want to keep him from Arum.
I don't really know the technicality of this jmm-GBP so called 'right to match' contract on whether the weight is also stipulated in the contract. At first I thought this was a joke. Marquez wins either way. All he has to do is go to GBP and show that he has an offer from TR to fight pac at 147 for $5 million then GBP offers him counter contract matching the amount to fight saul at 147. The problem is that GBP may be risking too much. There's a big probability that they don't get break-even in this match but I maybe wrong.
Yeah exactly, if Bob throws big money at Marquez just let it be. No point in risking it financially just because of ego. Plus I would rather see Marquez Pacman than Marquez Canelo so that's what I'm hoping happens :good
......and you dont think GBP has considered their options. First of all GBP has'nt proposed it yet, but may...... GBP may also propose a JMM-Morales fight if they can convince Morales to take a very low cut and hope to make upside money on the PPV sales. Morales at this point would have to take a risk that could result in him fighting for virtually nothing, but its a risk he may want to take. I think GBP is willing to go as far as offering matching Arum dollar for dollar even if it means that they the promotion itself will not make any money. If GBP believe its likely they will lose money by matching Arum's offer, they'll let Marquez walk free to Arum for the Pacquiao fight. Believe me, GBP wont lose money offering matching Arum's 5 million offer for Marquez to fight Canelo.
Yeah, I would like pac-marquez more than canelo-marquez as well but the problem is that arum may be just bluffing and not really interested in pac-marquez fight which maybe the reason why marquez has no offer yet to show GBP. All these news we read may not be true at all and can't really be taken at face value.
I'm speculating on the weight issue because certainly GBP cannot attempt to match Arum's offer for a Pac fight at 147 lbs, with a Canelo fight at 154 lbs. Common sense tells you that in order for GBP's offer to retain the rights to Marquez to be valid, you have to offer him a fight at the same weight that Arum offer is being drawn up at. For example, and this is assuming that Marquez wants to fight Pacquiao and not Canelo....... if Arum's offer is for the Pacquiao fight at 140 lbs.....common sense will tell you that GBP is out of bounds in offering Marquez Canelo at 147 lbs, as Marquez can say to GBP and in court, "I fight at 135 lbs, I'm willing to go up to 140 lbs, but not 147 lbs where my former promoter is offering me the Canelo fight. .....common sense tells you an arbitrator or a judge rules in Marquez' favor and signals GBP out of bounds for offering Marquez Canelo at too high a weight.
Weight may not be the main reason why they're offering canelo at 147. Maybe money, but I don't know really.
Marquez vs Canelo can only be offered at 147 lbs......Canelo cannot come down lower, and Marquez certainly wont fight any higher than that. Canelo is the only fighter GBP has that can make GBP money against Marquez even by offering Marquez 5 million.
Question, if Canelo can't come down to 147 and they offer the same amount to fight Khan at 140 as to fight Pac at 147 What then?
If Arum offers Marquez Pac at 140 lbs, theoretically GBP can offer Khan at 140 lbs. A Khan fight would be harder to make imo than a Canelo fight. A Canelo fight makes money in the US. A Khan-Marquez fight does'nt do nearly as well on the PPV market in the US than a Marquez-Canelo fight. ......that, and I'm certain Khan would not be willing to accept peanuts to fight Marquez.....and with Marquez being offered 5 million to fight Khan, peanuts is what Khan would have to accept.
