You should care about this fight, because if it goes ahead and Mendy isn't stripped of his mandatory status, then it's Mendy who's next in line after Sherrington. Even Bute's harshest critics couldnt have imagined a worse run than Miranda, Brinkley, Magee, Sherrington and Mendy. I honestly cannot remember a champion with so many defenses against soft competition.
Bute's trainer said explicitly that they will never fight Mendy. You can postpone a mandatory by fighting in a unification. The IBF could say that rule applies to Kessler's Emeritus title, so they would get rid of Mendy. Or Bute could give step aside money to Mendy. Anyway, I hope he doesn't fight Mendy because at that time, there will be better options (Kessler, Pavlik, Dirrell). BTW, is the Sherrington fight official? Everybody seems to assume it is, but I read nothing about it...
If one is to believe the bootstains around these parts Bute will NOT sacrifice his belt in order to get a real fight, so I reckon he'll fight Mendy if he is threatened with being stripped of his title for failing to honour his mandatory obligations. So it might be Sherrinton (if its a go??) followed by Mendy. If that is so I can pretty much guarantee that the chances of a Kessler fight evaporates.
Kessler has to be available first. But if Bute doesn't fight a very good opponent this fall, my choices being Kessler, Pavlik, Dirrell or at worse Johnson, I'm out of his bandwagon. I don't care about the belt. Bute now has serious decisions to take.
anthony mundine ... is a shot fighter ...he may be ranked, but he is truely shot and would be lucky to go 3 rounds with any of the names mentioned...... daniel geale would be a good subsititute
