The reason for fighting Judah - he is a name and been in there with mayweather. I agree with you that Judah is way past his best, overrated due to a few good rounds and with may weather and a massive underachiever and never committed. Also had many chances before. But on the plus side he's well known in america. Has speed and many still rate him. Maidan a is still too dangerous for khan to rematch. Khan is struggling at the weight and would love to move up but he needs Bradley, if that can't happen then Judah is the next best option. Ortiz at 147 would not happen as GBoy want them to fight in a mega fight once they're both well known and popular. Like Mosley v DLH.
Bradley will only get his $1 Million guarantee if he fights one of the 4 fighters HBO agreed to him fighting next. This 4 include Alexander - rematch, Khan - unification, maidana was an option if he had won and is still in option not sure who the 4th option is but could be Judah - who would be the easiest of the 4. In boxing business terms, Judah make most sense in terms of risk v reward - short term anyway. HBO may be pissed off at him ****ing up their mini tourney, and they might not support him in the future which would make mega fights with pacman or mayweather even less likely. So in the long run he needs HBO on his side for the potential mega fights which will be likely especially if he beats khan and can be called king at 140
Knew it!! :rofl bout 48 hours to sign. They folded like i knew they would. Come on Tim sign the ****ing contract and do the right thing pal you know Khan's not built for this Storm!
While I agree you must see TB's point of view. I think he got paid more for the Alexander fight to. HBO have created the monsters. The way Bradley should view it is this. If he beats Khan he will be the front runner in the Mayweather/Pacquiao sweep stake. Which means a minimum payday of $6million. If he doesn't fight Khan who does he fight. Goldenboy won't deal with him so it leaves only a few decent opponents left. I think another thing to consider is whats Gary Shaw trying to hold Bradley down to?
Would HBO really do an Alexander rematch? I think Maidana and Judah could make more money in lower risk fights to. Morales, Marquez, Khan etc.
I do definitely see Bradley's point of view. Getting $1m plus for Alexander then a guaranteed $1m plus next time..... so long as he doesn't take the **** I would fully understand him feeling like taking a fight that wouldn't ordinarily generate that much..... Khan would, therefore the guarantee is meaningless. I'm not sure that's Bradley's primary motive - I mean, he was willing to fight Castillo in a WBC eliminator, then came here to face Witter (who nobody wanted anything to do with....). Obviously the situation has changed somewhat but I doubt Bradley has turned from a ''fight anyone anywhere'' to being effectively a ducker. As for Shaw, from what I've read.... the issue is that if Bradley takes Khan next then Shaw has an automatically triggered two year extension, which would put him out of bounds for Pacquiao. I'm not sure how that's actually enforcable legally, I'd have thought he'd have one fight left and then be a free agent, or in a similar position to Marquez where his ''previous'' promoter has the right to match any offer that he is made. Redondo makes a good point that this might bite Bradley on the arse, GBP and HBO are pretty tight, if he ****s around with their plans because of a few dollars he might end up on the blacklist and be forced onto Showtime - which would leave him on the outer in those divisions and short of options promotionally. Obviously the full facts will never be divulged, but it seems to me that Bradley is in a situation that he doesn't really know how to deal with, both from a career point of view and also legally.
If Bradley vs Khan dosen't get signed tomorrow then i think one of them will fight Judah and the other will fight Maidana. (although Maidana Morales rematch could be signed, damn its confusing at the moment)
Take note: Timmy's looking very stupid right now. FULL ART: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=6468716
Not that I'm disagreeing with this, but where did the notion of 'Khan struggling to make weight' come from? Was it after McCloskey's lot claimed, amongst many other things, Khan looked like a ghost at the weigh in? Because other than that, I've not heard anything about him struggling with the weight. Also, against Maidana, Khan only weighed 149 on fight night.
Exactly what I was thinking. Poor planning by Timmy on his part. Can't imagine HBO are pleased with him.
They folded pal. They've made deadlines previously (April 16th bout i believe) and then extended them. Don't make deadlines then allow HBO and suchlike to make you extend them then!. They make themselves look foolish simple as.
Why would they fold and make it longer? If anything, Bradley would be extremely dangerous, and it would be better to get Khan to face someone else, so why would they fold and make it longer? I didn't know sticking to a deadline was such a big deal for a big fight. Do you not want to see the fight then? If anything, they would have been happy that it's gone past the deadline, no? Right, and if Amir was in this position, I have NO DOUBT that many of you would be calling Amir a ducker. Just how it works on ESB, right?
