basically GSP's trainer says that it was a hook in the third round that Shields threw with an open hand and that hit both of GSP's eyes, going right to left. He says it was unintentional but that he told the ref right away and that the ref should have given a warning. Then he goes on to say that by the 5th round GSP was completely blind which is dangerous because it takes away his perception of depth.

He also says that hook is very obvious on the replay.

I'm sure the doctor kissed his eye, gave him a lolli and had GSP on his way in 10 minutes.

I would have gladly done it while saving him $$$ but I guess that's what insurance is for.

good, but the question is, how long will it take our eyes to heal from watching that snoozefest (not the card, but the gsp fight)

It was a thumb in the eye. You can see it very clearly in the replay between rounds 3 and 4. First they show a jab, then a takedown GSP gets on Shields, then the jab again. Rogan missed it but you can see a thumb go into GSP's as he shoots in eye if you look close enough.

If you can, rewatch the footage. Between rounds 3 and 4 they show a takedown and GSP clearly catches a thumb in th eye.

maybe fighters should be made to wear some sort of ultra thin bullet proof clear material goggles

The fight was pretty good IMO. Great leg kick from GSP puts Shields down, great superman jabs which hurt and at one point knock Shields down again. Great surprise flash takedowns by GSP and when he is half-blind GSP shows great evasive technique which the classy Jake acknowledged post-fight.

  15. although it was probably the least entertaining fight on the card, i still liked it, and i watched the whole fight again yesterday too.
i was really surprized how shields seemed to lack confidence. he was built up so much before the fight regarding his fantastic wrestling skills, yet they weren't evident at all.
a wasted opportunity by shields imo.
