Slick Mexican Boxers

If De La Hoya was slick, we have to find a new word for Pernell Whitaker

 

Vazquez or Mijares are good calls from today's crop.

 

Slick? Like Jorge "el maromero" Paez? Mexicans arent slick, they come to bring the pain

 

Sanchez was definitely slick. Especially in the fight against Danny Lopez.

 

Morales looked pretty damn slick in his last fight.

People like Sanchez and Lopez were more boxer-punchers, but Canto was super smooth.

 

Welll Lopez was as perfect as a technichian as they come.. But he was a very good puncher too, although a great boxer he was just as much an offesive machine and great counterpuncher someone who if you make a mistake he will make you pay... Same with sanchez... Montiel was quick in his prime and a good boxer but id say he boxer/puncher was more his style... Oscar too ^^ he could be slick when he wanted (see Tito fight but that wasnt him..

Miguel Canto was the definition of slick.. The way Pernell,Benitez,Mayweather are.(were). Another Mexicna that was slick in his prime was Gilberto Roman. former JB champ and pfp guy back in the 80s... Alot of Mexican fighters have very good boxing skills(not just slugers) but its not in their nature to be a Defensive guy first,offense second., But the guys you mentioned above could be slick defensive guys is if they chose too.

Daniel Zarragoza was known to slug it out in plenty of fights. But hes another guy who was cagey and a very good boxer. Manuel Medina too, but like Zarragoza loved a *******, even though neither of them were really punchers.

Paul Gonzalez was a real slick guy in the olympics,amatuers.. So slick he woo the Val Barker award in the 84 olympics.. Pretty impressive considering who his teamates were, just had hand injuries and long layoffs never got a title and didnt go as far as expected... Former top Fw,Lw and Jw contender Hector Lopez wa another slick guy,but he too welcomed a shootout and was in many, so slick he outboxed kostya Tszyu for 6 rounds only to slow down towards the end , this was controversial as i thought Lopez pulled it out... Christian Mijares but not to slick against Darchinyan.

RUben Castillo Mex/Amer was slick and gave Sanchez all he wanted,Sanchez barely edged him out. Genaro Hernandez could be slick when he wanted(see his win over Nelson) Jesse James Leija in his prime was too see his masterpiece boxing showcase over Nelson (i think 3rd fight)... Albert Davila former bantam champ is another one who was an excellent boxer, and slick.... Joey Olivo former Jr fly chmp was really tall for fly 5-8 and real slick.,, I know there iss more but those ones came to mind..... Orlando Canizales was slick too but he was more of a boxer/puncher..... Richie Sandoval for bantam champ.... Mando Ramos another one who was slick at times but he loved a slugfest too much..

I wouldn't call any of these guys "slick", although Sanchez was the smoothest of the bunch. Hell, Olivares may be a better choice than any of them save maybe Sanchez from that list. Chucho Castillo as well. Gilberto Roman was one of the smoothest boxer-punchers from the lower weights. Rodolfo Gonzalez was a silky smooth, Napoles-esque boxer-puncher. Guys like Orlando Canizales and Alberto Davila among Mexican-Americans were especially smooth.

However, Canto is the bee's knees.

 

Is there a rule somewhere that states that boxer-punchers can't be slick/smooth? A guy like Canizales was the epitome of this kind of fighter, in my opinion, despite being offensive-minded.

 

interesting I never equated slick boxer and Mexican boxer together...in fact they should not be part of the same senternce...something basically wrong with that statement....
This is like saying "tactical Philly fighters'.....

 

Well if Boxer/ punchers can be considered slick, then theres a whole lot i could add to this list... There were alot of Mexican and Mex/American fighters that were excellent boxers and could have have displayed a slick style.. But thats just not the Mexican way:nono
