Is JMM still in his prime?

No . . . past his prime

 

He's past his prime athletically, but he's shown what a lot of fighters cannot past that, an ability to adapt his game which is keeping him in the game. Not many fighters can do this, Bernard is a good example, or George Foreman, these guys are just smart enough to find other ways to win, when they don't have as much athletically anymore, I still feel he's a force at LW, but I don't think he can carry that to WW at this point. Since now he has to stand and trade more, the power of WW's is too much in my opinion.

 

Skill wise no... physically definitely... so yes he is passed prime... he was passed prime in the 2nd fight as well.

 

JMM is past his prime...hes still a good fighter but look at the level of competition hes been fighting..big name fighters but not elite A+ fighters... i love JMM but i can tell hes on the decline.. he been relyin on veteran savvy to beat these guys .. the only reason pac is gonna fight him now is cuz he past it an hes moving up 2 weight classes .. i really hope JMM pulls it off but the cards are stacked against him

 

No! He's made up for athletic deterioration with intelligence, guts and durability and done so against bigger men. This is great but it doesn't change the fact that his legs and reaction time are still back at a lower weight class. He's far more vulnerable now, but he throws so much firepower at it, intelligent, purposeful firepower that he can come out on top against the Kats and Juans of 135. Still excellent? Yep. Still dangerous? Yep. Still prime? No. Observably no.

If JMM fights Guerrero at 140lb he will be KO'd I GUARANTEE IT, and Robert could NEVER CARRY A PRIME JMM JOCK STRAP.....NEVER!

 

I thought his prime was when he was fighting out at the felt forum. He was amazing in the late '90's.

He is about 3 or 4 years past his prime, he had a life and death battle with PAC twice, his lost to Mayweather is bull**** because of the weight issue but his last 2 fights (katsidis and diaz....really). Thats kinda weak. I think they have been matching him with fighters that will give him solid opposition and great fights but will lose. Its a great marketing strategy right now. It would be nice if he would fight the other young guns at 135 such as Rios, Guerrero. I can see Marquez at 45 years old still whooping ass but his best years are behind him.

 

At first i was about to outright disagree with you. . BUt then i thought about and figured that it would depend on what kind of fighter he was going up against.... The old Marquez was much quicker,slicker and got hit less but sometimes didnt take care of buisness or use his power as much, take chances like now... His fight with Norwood wa an ugly fight and could have gone either way, but im convinced that a slowed down but more aggressive Marquez would have known how to handle Norwood.. Same with the John fight, he didnt step it up enough and looked uninspired..

However i dont think the new version of JMM would outbox Manny as decisive as he did in the other 2 fights... Would still be highly competetive, but he doesnt pull the trigger as quick on counterpunches and also gets hit more.. That would mean Manny would probably score more knockdowns and probably stop him.

 

what the hell is the issue here? He isn't in his prime and it's not like I said he is. He's still performing at a very high level so he hasn't slipped THAT much.

His prime drew to a close around the time he changed his style out of necessity to push himself toward the big money matches.

He's still capable of beastly performances (at lightweight).
