Wepner would never make the top ten if he was around today.

That silly nickname never even remotely suited him at all, even at his best.

 

He wasn't even "The White Berbick".

 

I doubt Wepner could win a trilogy against Audley Harrison.

I very much doubt Chagaev would beat (the good versions of) Pinklon Thomas & Greg Page.

 

A motivated Berbick would probably beat all the heavys out there right now.. Except the Klichkos.... Jury still out on Haye,his chin might fail him against Berbick, despite being the better overall fighter.

 

No ****ing way!!!! Id give a prime Thomas a good shot at the Klitchkos.. Maybe even money to ko Wlad.. Page couldt **** with the klitchkos but hed beat everyone else.

 

Problem with Berbick was he was a little bit unhinged. He had some serious paranoid conspiracies complex - he said Don King had pumped poision gas into his hotel room before the Tyson fight. He accused Larry Holmes of wrecking his marriage. He didn't want to come out of the dressing room against Snipes because he said his pay was being cut. The last one might have been true, but the other two were most likely figments of his imagination.

He lost some fights he really should have won - Snipes, S.T.Gordon.
And won some he was supposed to lose - Tate, Page, Thomas.

At his best he was good. Strong and busy.

Tragic grisly end he came to. May he R.I.P.

 

To call Wepner a "journeyman" would be too generous.

The Klitschko's in present form would walk through the 80's a little navigation and timing and they would dominate...Page, Thomas, Weaver,Tate, Coetzee and Dokes all had there moments but eventually fizzled or fell out of condition...Witherspoon,Bone-crusher,Williams, and the rest were under-achievers and would be KO'd by the Klitschko's...Holmes would be a lively foe but would succumb to the right hand of Vlad despite his will to win. I think Vitali could stop Holmes but may apt to let Larry run into a UD loss unless Larry came to fight then I see both beating him. Today Wepner would get stopped by Solis,Chambers,THOMPSON,Pulev,Povetkin,Boystov,Chageav, and would not even get past the Tyson Fury level without a loss

Chuck Wepner doesn't beat anyone of value today or anytime within the past 20 years. His claim to fame of taking Muhammad Ali 15 rounds, was by virtue of Ali aging and taking Wepner lightly. Today's division may not be filled with men who can " float like butterflies and sting like bees" But there are a lot of large athletes who can hit hard, and Chuck had little to no success against those, even in his day. The only reason he was ever granted any decent pay days was due to his mafia affiliation in New Jersey, and most never took him seriously even then.

 

Chambers would beat him....with ease....
