WHo wins this fight between these punchers? Even though Quarry can bang, i think Williams hits much harder, he is also naturally bigger and has a big height reach advantage... Quarry beats another big aggresive plodding puncher. Williams would have a few moments early on, but Quarry finds him and finishes him off like he did Mac Foster.

It is proven that Quarry was a better (pay attention to the wording) puncher. He finished a better quality of opponent. KO3 over Williams.
cleveland williams was not a bad fighter he just never ever won a big fight. EVER. I am not entirely dismisive of williams, his power deserves respect and there is no doubt the bigcat was a mighty handfull for anyone which is why he is always remembered. I can honestly say if I were around I would look forward to watching big cat, an explosive performer at a level. Of course quarry is not an ATG either but now that both careers have panned out there is so much more overwhelming evidence in class for this matchup. Quarry would need to make a serious mistake to lose this one. williams has no form at that level.
From the footage ive seen Williams looks pretty good.. He looks better than Ingo, who was one of the champions in his era... I even think he matches up well against Floyd Patterson, not saying he was better but theres a good chance he would have flattened him like Liston did. I think it was Eddie Machen( who he drew with) who said that Big Cat was harder to fight than Liston, because you could just step around Liston and get out the way.. But not so with WIlliams, who was quicker and more mobile. Liston also gave Williams alot of props for his punching power and said something about Williams not treating him to nicely for the couple rounds it lasted.., He had a few good wins stopping Prime Terrell and losing one, and beat some other top contenders from that day.. But it seems like he was ducked or passed over by the champions... When he finally got big fights he was already past it. His only weakness seemed to be a not so great chin.

Yep Williams is certainly a different kettle of fish to Shavers, Lyle and Foster and he certainly looks to be better than his best wins indicate. I'm not sure about this match up, it's a good 1
What sets Big Cat apart from the other huge sluggers Jerry took apart was his hand speed. Cleveland would have enjoyed significant height and reach advantages over JQ as well, advantages not shared by the speedy Patterson. No question who has the better chin and greater durability, but I'm not as comfortable picking Jerry in this one because of that combination of physical gifts Williams did have. For me, this is much more of a pick 'em than JQ-Foreman.
Ok, I'll agree that it's a misdiagnosis to label Williams a plodder, but his achilles heel would seem to be his chin..and I still think Quarry stops him.
With some fighters the sum of the parts is less than the whole, while the reverse of this axiom can be applied to other fighters. In this match, I believe, we see both sides of this coin represented.
