Floyd demands that his name be first in the billing/fight title and walks last coming to the ring (Floyd vs TBA as oppose to TBA vs Floyd). With his name gone in the rankings, Floyd now in weaker position to demand such ego boasting things. No one really care much about billing ... except Floyd.
No, Floyd Mayweather gets money from revenue, PERIOD. The ring magazine or any other media ranking has no bearing on him making money. He can be gone for another two years and still come back making multi million dollars.
The truth is probably somewhere between the two. Both Floyd and his hardcore fans will care at least a tiny amount. Not that it makes any tangible difference to his career or standing whatsoever, but no one likes to be publicly marginalised. Although personally if I were Floyd, ego and all, I'd rather be off the rankings than second to Pacquiao. However something tells me he's too 'in your face' to think this way.
