Are we talking about the same Frankie Randall who was stopped in the 2nd round by Primo Ramos before he faced JCC?

Are we talking about the same Frankie Randall whose previous opponent to Chavez was a guy with a 0-9 record?

    Yup, you certainly are:

hey bro u just told me everything i need to know about your Boxing Iq...

SO he got kod:roll: Big deal happens to a lot of guys, if you would have seen that highlight almost anybody would have been:dead from that punch;. Besides Primo Ramos was a dangerous puncher and legitimate contender.. **** like that happens in boxing, i can rattle of a number of great and good champs that were kod or upset by other contenders, bottom line is Randall had a good chin he showed that by taking punches from guys like a prime Rosario without getting dropped or kod, and he fought him twice, also took Chavez punches well.. Any fan with a boxing iq knows, you get hit on the button with a perfect shot your gonna go. Even if you fighters with good chins, and Ramos could punch.... Randall was a highly touted amatuer, and a hot prospect when he was thrown in with a prime Rosario.. The less experienced gave a Prime Rosario all he wanted, from then on i knew hed be a hellluva fighter but he got caught up drugs/prison.... Doesnt take away the fact that he was a helluva fighter, and if not sidetracked i think he would have become an all time great... You should go back to the general Kittikasem.. You dont cut here:nono

Oscar was a career overachiever imo.A bit like a west coast Benvenuti.

Not a great talent or natural ring-technician by any means, but a very good fighter nonetheless.

Carefully managed and crafted multi-weight success looks better on paper than it really is, as with most fighters since the dawn of the modern junior weightclasses.

There is only one excuse to rank Mayweather above Marquez P4P besides of their actual fight which is more to Marquez's credit in this aspect than to Floyd's :
Did Marquez really avoid Hamed ?
If he did then I can see why ranking Floyd above him.
If he didn't than Marquez should definitely be ranked higher than Floyd .

He was a great talent.. I am from the same area as Oscar and he would also come to the same gym i was at sometimes.. Oscar was a young teen then and he was alreay well known in the LA area as kid phenom and a cant miss future champ. He used to spar with guys much older than him already young men with experience back when he was basically a kid 13,14.. He was far and beyond any one his age... He also had a decorated amatuer career before he even hit the olympics 225-5 as an amatuer... You saying the complete opposite of what every gym rat, trainer, fighter, amatuer official from the West coast has known for years... When your have a reputation like that when still a kid, you definitely have loads of great talent.

I think Oscar has done more than enough to be considered an atg.. But he could have done even more.. THats why i also disagree with the overachiever statement... There was alot of little things that he could have changed that would have won him some big fights and raised his stock much more, and it had nothing to do with Talent.... We all know about his choke in the Tito fight, fought a brilliant fight for 9 rounds before shamefully getting on his super bike, dont think that he was that tired , dont know what was going thru his head:?, but he shouldnt have changed a thing, we all know he deserved that fight but officially he blew it (although a couple judges gave him those last rounds:think)... Okay now to his fight with Shane, he went in with a mindset that he was gonna ko the smaller Mosley, and to his suprise Mosley was a real welter that wasnt going anywhere, he still held his own and lost a razor close decision but, he had no plan B and should have known he could out jab and outbox Shane, this was a winnable fight ,even if he changed up for the one or 2 rounds it would have been enough... In his fight with Floyd he was doing very well up until the mid rounds and had a solid lead, using his jab and fighting smart.. Then he just drops what was working and lets Floyd take over and santch the decision again WTF was he thinking:?
I wasnt gonna bring up the Quartey fight since he pulled it out at the end..But even in that fight , he seemed to lay back and let Quartey win those rounds, Oscar fought to damn careful at times and wasnt doing the things that were working for him earlier.... IMO his only gift was against Sturm, but even that fight was pretty close and Oscar should have known better then to underestimate the naturally bigger champion, by coming in fat and not fully prepared, would have stil had trouble with the bigger Sturm, but he would have won a competetive but convincing decision...

Nothing he could have done about the Hopkins fight.. Pac either he was a drained zombie but, even if not he had seen better days. Instead of being a top 30 atg(Imo) he would have had a case for a much higher spot iwth the true atg elites top 15 or possible top 10. Had a great career and it seems odd to say he underachieved. But those couple little mental lapses or bad fight plans made a big difference.... You cant teach reflexes and hand speed like Prime Oscars, or his booming left hook, that was Talent:yep

i agree it is hard to gauge how good he was because of all the smoke and mirrors. if you look past them, he was very rarely number 1 in any given division.

 Considering how much he achieved with imperfect technique i'd say he was phenomenal physical talent.

Say what you want about Oscar, but he was more willing to sign a fight than almost anyone after the 80's. Carefully managed, but only by....Harry Greb standards.

i know well how he was regarded on the west coast on the way up Anarci and no doubt he was well ahead of most regionally as a kid and young teen and great amatuer but i'm talking mainly as a pro here when i talk about his ability.

imo he had very good physical abilities/raw attributes and good talent technically.A hard worker who built things very carefully on his hard earned amatuer success.

    GREAT, PHENOMENAL!!!!! etc.

    Not for me sorry.Neither as a technical boxer-puncher or a physical phenom\freak.

Very good and a hard man to beat for most fighters sub 147, which shouldnt be interpreted as dragging the guy down in any way.Look past your lust for his meticulously maintained manly-yet-sensitive latin pinupboy image and do not judge me too harshly i plead.;)

What are you talking abou? He was easily the best Lw, Jw for the short time he was there...And after he was robbed vs Tito proved he had been the best WW. Also was the man at JM... I really dont get your statement:?

The other 2 weights he won titles at (JL,MW) i agree with you. He beat a paper champ Bredhahl.. While Chicanito and Nelson were the more established and proven champs... And we know what happen at Mw.. He was still the number one guy in 4 of the 6 divisions he won titles at.. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

You ask the impossible. I can understand how people wouldn't dig him, he can be a very limited fighter technically and as a ring general. When presented with fighters he couldn't outright assrape he'd fall short more likely than not.

Quartey that fought Espana, Phillips etc would have handled him i reckon.

Ike was slow against him compared to those bouts, especially his feet.

THats pure speculation.. Espana gave him a tough fight.. The Ko over the smaller Phillips was an impressive win, i remember he walked through Phillips money shot, then walked him down, but the fight was only 3 rounds... If he was so fast on his feet (pre Oscar) why did he have such a problem getting to Carr? He never came close to stopping him. Oscar kod him with one punch.:yep And Tito also stopped him and he was slow afoot.

yeah, Tito did the best of the three against Carr.Oscar looked like **** against him imo, though probably more because he was just staying in 2nd gear.Carr was past it by then.

Quartey was never fast of foot, but his inactivity had him looking like a slowed down Frank Bruno in there at times. He could stalk more effectively and get combos off a lot easier in previous years.
