I hope they have it in Toowoomba....it would be huge in his home town...they would get 10,000 if the card was good....stick Alex Leapai on and he drags half or Logan up the H'Way as well :good

Mick needs to get with a great publicity team , because has much has we all admire and respect him , i don't think Mick is actually known outside the boxing circles , Definetly not known in the same manner has the other two.

He is well known in the USA and I guess he focused on that. His lack of press here is criminal I'll give you that!

Him vs Zappa someday would rouse interest. Although I couldnt see it happening until kats is like 35 and has retired twice

Katsidis to bring boxing blockbuster home

by Phil Lutton - Brisbane Times -May 5th 2011

Former lightweight world champion Michael Katsidis will stage his next fight in his home state - possibly in Brisbane or his home town of Toowoomba - after turning down a Las Vegas blockbuster against Mexican great Erik Morales.

Katsidis is rated as one of the most exciting fighters in the game and is trying to get his career back on track after a pair of losses to Juan Manuel Marquez, a bout named the 2010 fight of the year, and Robert Guerrero.

Both are elite boxers in their division and proved a bridge too far for Katsidis, whose relentless punching and incredible toughness has made him a pay-per-view favourite in the United States.

Any bout in his home state would be a coup for boxing fans in Queensland, who rarely get to see a fighter of Katsidis' calibre performing in the flesh. No opponent has been named and July or August appears to be the timeframe for the contest.

Other options for hosting the fight are Sydney and Melbourne, although Katsidis has made no secret of his desire to fight in Queensland, especially after the recent floods and the devastation caused in his home town on the Darling Downs.

"My last 10 fights have been overseas and I think now is the time for me to come back to Australia and bring and bring an international opponent into my country,” Katsidis said.

“This is something I've been looking forward to for a long time but until now, the timing just hasn't been right. It's been a tough six months for me personally and I feel it is really important to come home and fight.”

Katsidis has returned to Toowoomba to be close to his family after the death of his brother, star jockey Stathi, last year.

Katsidis' trainer Brendon Smith, who would have turned down a big pay day against Morales, said he was happy for his fighter to stage a fight in front of his home fans and the search for venues and opponents was underway.

“I agree with Michael that now is the time to fight in Australia. He has a huge support base all over the world but the people of Australia haven't had the opportunity to see him in action for a long time,” Smith said.

“Where the fight will be is still uncertain but we will look at a number of options and a number of quality opponents and see what fits best.”

Katsidis hasn't fought in Australia since 2006. Earlier this year, the 30-year-old expressed a strong desire to bring a high-profile bout back home.

"I'm getting to the stage in my career where I've got the attention. I've got HBO in America. When I pull off this next one, get that attention, draw it back to Australia, it would just be a great thing to have a show in Brisbane," Katsidis said.

It had been reported that Garth Wood, who lost to Anthony Mundine at middleweight last month in Brisbane, was a possibility for Katsidis but given they are four weight divisions apart, it's difficult to see how that gap could be bridged.

Katsidis has previously hinted he could fight at junior middleweight but has enjoyed all of his success in the lighter divisions.

In any case, a fight against Wood would be unlikely to be held in Brisbane or Toowoomba, with Wood vowing never to fight in Queensland again after his loss to Mundine.

Katsidis the Great is special guest at our next show. Being on Fox Sports and Lenny Zapp also being there we might get an answer on where that is heading?

How about Trent Broadhurst V Les Piper! Can't wait for this one!
